Rising Stars: Meet Andrea Maher of Dallas-Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Maher.

Hi Andrea, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
About Adelphos Cellars:

Nestled in the heart of Lubbock, Texas, Adelphos Cellars offers something rare among Texas wedding venues: a space built not as a business venture, but as a legacy.

The story starts in the mid-1990s, when the Irwin and Conklin families met at a small church in Idalou, Texas. What began as friendship grew into a thirty-year partnership. The two families raised their children together, planted vineyards together, and weathered hardship side by side. Eventually, that bond became something guests can now walk into: a working estate vineyard, tasting room, and event venue built from the ground up by two families who never stopped showing up for each other.

That history is woven into every corner of the property. Our vineyard grows 100% Texas estate grapes just steps from where celebrations take place, giving the grounds a working, lived-in beauty that feels distinct from more manufactured event spaces. The venue space designed to hold both quiet dinners and full wedding celebrations, with room to move between indoor elegance and open Texas sky.

We named the winery Adelphos, the ancient Greek word for brother, because that’s what the property was built on. For couples planning their wedding day here, that history shows up in the details: a venue shaped by decades of loyalty, care, and family, now offered as the backdrop for the next chapter someone else is writing.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
We’d like to say the road hasn’t been smooth, but it’s been fun. Learning how to serve our community well, especially the couples who trust us with their wedding day, has had a learning curve.

Growing grapes in West Texas will teach you patience fast. The weather here does not care about your plans, and we’ve learned to roll with late freezes, hailstorms, and everything in between. Turning that into a venue where couples say their vows added a whole new layer of learning too, from event logistics to making sure every bride and groom who walks through our doors feels as welcomed as if they were family.

The truth is, most of what we’ve learned came from just showing up and figuring it out together, the same way we’ve done everything else these past thirty years. That’s part of what makes Adelphos feel different. We’re not running a business we studied in a book. We’re building something we love, one wedding at a time.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
At Adelphos Cellars, we specialize in weddings and private events set inside a Mediterranean-inspired space that you won’t find anywhere else in West Texas. Arched corridors, warm stone, and natural light give the whole property a feel that’s part Old World, part home. Couples tell us it doesn’t feel like anywhere else they toured in Lubbock, and that’s exactly the point.

We’re known for the details that make wedding days easier and more fun, not just prettier. Our bridal suite gives brides a bright, private space to get ready with plenty of room for the whole crew. Our groom’s lounge has become a bit of a favorite on its own, with leather seating, an 85 inch TV, and an arcade cabinet to help the guys pass the time before the ceremony. Add to that spaces that flex from an intimate 75 guest vineyard ceremony to a full 275 guest celebration in the Grand Room or Courtyard, and couples get real flexibility without ever having to compromise on the setting.

What we’re most proud of is simple. We built something from a friendship, and we get to watch couples build their own story inside it. Adelphos means brother, and that idea, two families who showed up for each other for thirty years, is still what shapes how we treat every couple who walks through our doors.

What sets us apart is that combination. It’s rare to find a venue with this kind of architecture and this kind of history behind it. We’re not a rented shell that gets dressed up for the day. We’re a family business that was built with celebration in mind from the very beginning.

What makes you happy?
We’re happiest on a full property day, when the tasting room is buzzing, a wedding is underway in the Grand Room, and the vineyard is quiet in the background doing what it does. It reminds us why we started this in the first place.
