Rising Stars: Meet Andrew Strickland of Plano

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Strickland

Hi Andrew , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Andrew Strickland has 25 years of experience in the restaurant industry and is a former manager of California Shabu-Shabu, a restaurant open for 26 years in Fountain Valley, California. Andrew mastered the Shabu-Shabu business from his menor and partner Taka Itiyama who was born and raised in Osaka, Japan.He learned the concept from top to bottom by working in every position in the enterprise. Including dishwasher and prep from 15-18 years old. Andrew also completed the food service management program at orange coast college. I started this business with my brother Josh Strickland who is 23 months older than me. He started at 16 years old and we worked together ever since. We worked alot saved all of our money and self financed our first store in Richardson Texas.

Josh Strickland has 25 years experience in the restaurant industry and is a former manager of California Shabu Shabu. He also completed the food service management program at orange coast college. Andrew and Josh together have all the expertise and knowledge to run a high volume Shabu Shabu restaurant. They have great pride in the Japanese culture and have been to Japan many times with mentor and family friend Taka Itiyama “California Shabu Shabu owner.”

Yoshi Shabu Shabu started as a startup in richardson Texas and has been a desired restaurant and gaining regular guest daily. Andrew Strickland and Josh wanted there 2nd store near Toyota headquarters nearby would give a great traditional homestyle shabu Shabu meal to there employees. All the great companies and residents nearby would love having yoshi Shabu Shabu nearby giving them great taste with a healthy conscience.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Struggles were saving money and finally make the leap of faith and starting your own business and dedicating your life to make sure it true to the culture. Struggles with staffing and adjusting to togo during Covid was difficult.
