Today we’d like to introduce you to Angel Silos.
Hi Angel, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I originally started rapping in middle school. One of my good friends Jailun really got me into rap battling. I used to watch him just spit CRAZY shit. One day he called me out in a rap, and it was up from there. We were battling everybody and each other every day. Before, during, and after school. Once we got to high school, I focused on sports, and Jailun focused on his own goals of becoming a big DJ. He was already off to a great start. It was up until one day, I got a phone call that Jailun had passed away due to somebody that decided to drive dunk. It was that year, that I went through some crazy changes in life, and something in me told me music was the way to go. I went off to college and started showing people some of the stuff I had been writing, and I had nothing but support from everyone I talked to. I finally came to the realization that music was what made me happy. I dropped sports, and it all was history from there.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The only real struggle I’ve had, with everything music related, is just finding the right people to take me to the right places. I know everything will work itself out in the end, but for right now, the only focus I have is to get out of the bottom.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Growing up, my dad always tried to show me Texas cultured music. You can’t have Texas music without talking about Houston in the rap game. One thing I always noticed from back then was Houston artists always made sure to stick with each other and help the whole city succeed. Dallas is known for ‘pocket watchers,’ ‘haters,’ and the huge amount of competition with each other. Which isn’t always a bad thing, that’s just proof we have an abundance of talent. I really just want to make sure that not only do I stay true to who I am, but I also want to rep the city of Dallas correctly to make sure everybody eats.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
The only thing that I could tell others is actually advice I learned for myself. On Instagram one day, I saw this interview with, ‘Meek Mill.’ During the interview, he says that he was making music for about 10 years before he ever saw any profit from it. I can’t stress enough how much of a process it is to be able to get where you want to be in life. You have to trust it. Trust the process and know that it’ll all work itself out right before your eyes.
