Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Rubio.
Hi Angela, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I stumbled into photography about 9 years ago when I became a mother. I began taking photos of my babies. I loved the art behind it. Eventually, I started taking photos of people and fell in love with being able to capture more than just a photo, but something that gave off a feeling or captured the essence of moment.
When I had my third child, I knew my heart was to be home more, which is why I made the decision to end my time at my corporate job and pursue photography full-time. My day-to-day life consists of being the best mom that I can be to my three kids, all while running my business. I wouldn’t want this season of my life any other way.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. Marketing has not been easy. Identifying my target client and finding my target audience to service has not been as easy as I thought it would. I definitely want my clients to value and appreciate my work which is why it is important to me that I am working with the right clients. Another struggle of mine has been with confidence. It is difficult to believe in myself and in my work when there is so many talented photographers here in the DFW that have been in the game for much longer than I have, and are great at what they do. However, when a client reaches out after their session to let me know how much they enjoyed their experience, it fuels me to continue doing what I do.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in motherhood and family photography. Motherhood can be such a challenging journey and I am passionate about how photographs can truly bring out the beauty of the season. When booking a motherhood portrait session with me, my clients have access to my client closet of handcrafted gowns. Our client closet consists of over forty handcrafted gowns picked by me. Trends are constantly changing; therefore, I am continuously investing in my client closet.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I never imagined being a small business owner, but here I am! It all started as a dream, turned into a hobby, subsequently, a business. My hope is that I can inspire other women and moms to just go for it.
