Rising Stars: Meet Ashleigh Mills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashleigh Mills.

Hi Ashleigh, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Well, I actually started in the beauty industry 10 years ago after finishing cosmetology school, I did hair for all of about 2 years, and after not having much success, I decided to switch careers and work with my second love- children. I worked with children and in ABA up until 2021 while still doing family members’ hair only. People started noticing my braids and anytime I did my hair and I decided to just take a leap of faith and go back to my first love-doing hair! I quit my job working with children with autism and went back to hair full time and it’s been heaven doing what I was put on this earth to do every day

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It definitely has been a few bumps along the way. For starters, it wasn’t easy getting back to working for myself after so many years of clocking in for someone else. I also found out that I was pregnant at the time so standing all of those hours took a toll on me and after only 2 months I had to take a leave of absence from the shop I was currently in at the time. It was definitely hard for me especially I had just started back. After 2 months I decided I couldn’t wait any longer and had to get back to it. Between the pregnancy and trying to put myself out there, I felt like I was in over my head, but a good support system and consistency helped me out

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a hairstylist that specializes in braiding and locs. As of recently, I’ve been known for my locs more than anything. I’m most proud of my kids. They’re the reason I made the decision to even come back to hair in the first place and to know that I’m showing them to always follow your heart and the path that’s meant for you keeps me going., that and my daughter shows a huge interest in following after mommy!

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
If there’s something that you want to do, do it!! If you’re scared to quit your job to go after what you want and do whatever it is that you know you’re destined to do, go for it! Quit and step out on faith honesty because if it’s one thing I’ve learned is God will not leave you out when you are doing what you’re called to do!
