Today we’d like to introduce you to Ayanna Yemanja.
Hi Ayanna, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
The origin of my entrepreneurial journey began in high school. I expressed myself through fashion and modeled my own handcrafted clothing, which helped me build a loyal customer base. This passion carried through college, where I used my formal education in Marketing to strengthen my brand. At the time, I was designing jewelry and using the profits to help fund my education.
Last year I founded my brand, Deep Art Society, and it is unlike anything I have done before. Rather than simply creating finished products, I now guide a community of artists by sharing my creative process, teaching them how to make their own art, and encouraging them to explore their creativity in a supportive environment.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The greatest struggle I’ve faced is getting in my own way by overthinking and hesitating to go after what I truly want. My personal mantra is “Release now. Revise later.” It is a reminder that if you have a creative idea, you should bring it to existence first and worry about making it great later.
A common misconception we often place on ourselves is the belief that our work must be perfect before it’s shared. But waiting for the perfect moment or the perfect version can lead to missed opportunities. That’s why a core part of my brand’s culture is transparency and showing people the full, unpolished creative process. I want others to see that struggling is normal and taking risks is necessary. Every time you take a chance on your dreams and make an effort it will result in either a win or wisdom.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a creative and the founder of Deep Art Society. I specialize in handcrafted art, including leatherwork, sculpting, and shoemaking. I spread the joy of creativity by hosting workshops and activations that bring people together to explore different art forms.
One of the things I’m most proud of is the experience of connecting people of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels through art. Whether it’s painting, cake decorating, or flower arranging, I have helped people discover new creative outlets and feel more confident in their abilities.
What sets me apart is my commitment to transparency and empowerment. I share my expertise openly and encourage others to try things for themselves. If someone believes they can create, I want them to go for it. I’m an advocate for anything that adds more beauty and joy to the world through art.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
***“What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?”
I strive to dismantle the idea that happiness and success are mutually exclusive. I believe that when you’re passionate about your work and it serves a purpose, success will come naturally.
Through Deep Art Society, I have created a community and introduced new perspectives on what art is and what it can be. That is something I’m both passionate and happy about. That is my purpose and what will always lead to success.
