Today we’d like to introduce you to Bertrand McKinney.
Bertrand, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up loving hip hop music. From my earliest memories I was a fan of the genre. I also was raised in church. My mother made sure that God was the center of our household as I grew up. It just made sense to combine the music that I love with a God that is love.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has been ups and downs doing music. Sometimes it’s long nights in the studio. It can be very expensive at times. The traveling takes you away from family. People may or may not like the music so sometimes it can feel as if you are doing it for nothing. The truth is that if the music reaches one person and encourages somebody, it’s truly worth it.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a Gospel Hip Hop Artist. I do rap music in honor of God. I’m known for heart felt lyrics and fit having a very distinctive rap voice. I’m most proud of the fact that people have come to me telling me that my music has encouraged them and helped them through some very dark times. The fact that give from my heart and love people deeply is what sets me apart.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Yes. I’m actually the co-host of a podcast called The Kim And Berty Show. We have opportunities to interview people that are making a difference in God’s kingdom.
