Rising Stars: Meet Bianca Rodriguez of Oak Cliff/ Bishop Arts

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bianca Rodriguez.

Hi Bianca, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
After realizing that corporate America and a traditional university path weren’t for me, I decided to pursue my love for makeup and hair and enrolled in cosmetology school. I went in thinking I had nothing to lose, and quickly discovered a true passion and natural love for the beauty industry.

After completing school, I began my career at a well-known salon as an assistant and worked my way up to master stylist. I spent six amazing years there, gaining invaluable experience, before the salon unexpectedly closed its doors. That moment pushed me to take a leap of faith. Alongside a close friend, I ventured out on my own and opened a private suite. Within a year, we outgrew that space and moved into a larger suite as our clientele and team continued to grow.

Soon, even that wasn’t enough. With continued growth and big dreams, we took another leap—opening our first brick-and-mortar MELT Studio in September 2024.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey hasn’t always been smooth. One of my biggest challenges came when the salon I was working at unexpectedly closed sooner than planned. We were forced to find a new place to work nearly two weeks earlier than expected, which meant canceling days’ worth of clients with no clear timeline for rescheduling. Thankfully, we were able to connect with the manager of the salon suites we had planned to move into, and she helped us secure our space sooner than expected. It was an exhausting and stressful time, but by God’s grace, we made it work. Transitioning from a salon environment to being fully independent was difficult, but it has also been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career.

Another major challenge I faced was the loss of my grandfather. I was raised by my grandparents for most of my life, so to me, they were my parents. My grandfather was my best friend and my biggest supporter. Losing him felt like losing a part of myself, and for a while, I also lost my motivation and passion. I felt empty and was simply going through the motions, with the months following his passing feeling like a blur.
Over time, I realized that staying stuck in that place was not what he would have wanted for me. He would have wanted me to keep pushing forward, growing, and building the life I dreamed of—and that’s exactly what I intend to do.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a hairstylist with nearly 10 years of experience, specializing in color, mainly balayage and highlights. While color is my main focus, I also specialize in working with Latina and ethnic hair. Most of my clientele has dark, textured hair, which can be challenging to work with, but it’s something I do every day and truly love.

My versatility is what sets me apart. I offer a wide range of color services, from bleach blonde and natural tones to bold, creative, and punky colors. I take pride in staying well-versed in current trends and continuously evolving within the industry.

I am proud of my ability to keep up with industry advancements and techniques, and my goal is for every client to feel confident and comfortable in my chair. I am always eager to learn, grow, and expand my skills to deliver the best possible results

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Working in the beauty industry is a risk on its own. Being a hairstylist and providing luxury services can be incredibly rewarding, but when slow seasons hit, it definitely makes you question all your life choices. There’s an uncertainty that comes with this career. “will I have enough clients to live off of this?” “am I good enough?” There’s so many questions that can consume you, but if you have a true passion for what you do, the success will come to you.

I’ve always been a risk-taker. I never want to look back and wonder “what if,” so I’d rather take the chance. When I decide to do something, I fully immerse myself, learning everything I can and then go all in. I truly believe that if you’re going to take a risk, you have to give it your all. Some of the biggest rewards in life come from the risks that most people are too scared to take.

I truly believe that success doesn’t come without taking chances and betting on yourself, so I will continue to take any risk if it gets me closer to my goal.
