Rising Stars: Meet Brenda Crump of Waxahachie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brenda Crump.

Hi Brenda, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have been in the Cosmetology industry for almost 30 years and teaching 25+ years. Teaching small groups for distributors/manufactures to large classes at the big box schools. Also teaching cosmetology and esthetics, with esthetics always being my favorite. After working with so many students over the years, I realized many needed more one on one attention that the big schools just can not give due to student/teacher ratio. In 2019 Profession Skin Care Academy was established for this very purpose. We have classes that never exceed 12 students, which gives us the ability to focus on each student, their learning style, and their personal way of receiving information. We are also in a small community, which allows us to have a very supportive and loyal group of customers which contributes to our students success with more hands on practice and customer service practice that future employers appreciate. In the past 6 1/2 years our clients have grown to reach all areas of the metroplex, (and they now bring out of town friends and family). We have even had students move here from Washington and Louisiana just to attend our Academy.
Our students graduate with a confidence, and skill level that we are so proud to have helped cultivate. We say that Professional Skin Care Academy is the Best Little Secrete in Waxahachie.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
We have had growing pains but not struggles. All and all it has been a good experience. We even had the opportunity to purchase our building we are in. So we are here for the long haul!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in and am known for by offering the best experience a student can have. Making them see the success and feel great about themselves. This does not seem like a specialty, but it takes a lot to reenforce confidence and reminding them how smart they are. I have been told over and over how their HS teachers made them feel inadequate and stupid! I love to show them they just learn different! My success is the success of our students! I am most proud when they get that first job, go solo, get that med-spa job! I am eccentric and that sets be apart from others. You never know I might dress up in butterfly wings and fly through the school, or bust out in a ballet during client day!! Letting the students know I am a real person, with a real life, and have been where they are. Showing them it is ok to have fun in life. Helping them understand “what does success mean to you”.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My parents helped me develop a strong work ethic, and a good sense of business and finance. I know they are proud and looking down on me with a big smile. My husband and children are my biggest cheerleaders. Helping make the decision that this was a good idea, helping with design, IT, financial information, being models and customers, and just encouraging through the years. Without them there would be no Academy. Graduates that share their success stories and teach classes for the current classes. Showing them what their success consist of. Our customers that are so supportive and understanding of the learning process the students go through. We honestly have the best customers ever!!! They love being practiced on! AND they love the beautiful skin they get in the process…hee hee
