Today we’d like to introduce you to Britt Parrish.
Hi Britt, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My story starts as a young girl, who got to tend to her granny’s garden every day. She instilled a green thumb and invaluable knowledge that really came full circle for me as an adult and with my current passion and career. My plant parenthood journey started in 2020, though, during the pandemic when a lot of others were also introduced to the plant world. What became a positive outlet for me soon became an inspirational and educational platform for other plant parents looking for advice and resources on how to care for their plants.
Little did I know this would put me on the path to my purpose of helping so many other plant parents and open up amazing opportunities as well. I’ve been able to create an event company called Plant.Sip.Vibe, which curates creative events centered around houseplant education, I’ve been accepted into 5 business accelerator programs, including Eventbrite’s RECONVENE accelerator, which offered a $10K grant and mentorship; I became a plant consultant where I offer services including styling, shopping, plant care, etc. I’ve been able to build an amazing online community of over 150K plant besties across my social media platforms, named the BoCo (short for the Botanical Community), and also create merch and a custom soil mix called TOTL Custom Soil Mix for plant owners, and so many other amazing opportunities.
Plants have really changed my life and the lives of others, and my story is really just beginning.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth ride, but I always appreciate what I call “character-building days”. They help you to appreciate your successes and wins. They help you to stay humble, grounded, and hungry to go after your goals and dreams. I’ve struggled with imposter syndrome, financial woes, burnout, delayed gratification, or just wondering if this is even what I’m destined to do.
But I am always reminded by the Universe and my close friends and family that I am on the right path; I am doing exactly what I am supposed to do. I am everything I believe I am to be and more.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a content creator and business owner. Under my brand, Botanicallybe, I create educational and inspiring content about houseplants. I am all about being authentic, relatable, and approachable, “your plant bestie,” and helping to make plant parenting less intimidating so that anyone can do it. I also am a plant consultant and help my clients with questions about their plants, styling, personal shopping, and care. I also own an event company called Plant.Sip.Vibe, where we put on creative houseplant events like Plant and Sips and Planty Bus Tours to get plant parents together to learn and network with each other as well as educate them about houseplants.
Everything I do and create is with the beginner in mind. Being the plant bestie I wish I had when I got started in my journey, but now being able to be that for others.
We’d love to hear what you think about risk-taking.
I think when you follow your dreams and take the road less traveled, there will always be risks. I have taken many risks in my journey. Making the decision to quit my job and become an entrepreneur full time several years ago was the biggest risk but one that has been most rewarding. I think taking risks is part of how you become successful. The thing most people are scared to do is usually the thing that brings them what they want. Feel the fear and doing it anyway have been something I have lived by for a while and helped me overcome the fear associated with risk-taking. BET ON. YOURSELF, I like to say as well.
