Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittani and Derek Newman.
Hi Brittani and Derek, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Savoy Beauty actually began as Savoy Cosmetics in 2014. I started with four basic mineral eyeshadows and at first, it was really great! Remember this is 2014 and makeup was just becoming the thing to be interested in and YouTubers were growing but not anywhere near where they are now. Slowly it slowed down and I closed up shop in 2016. I was already creating butters for myself because major brand companies would break me out and soaps would always have me seeing my OBGYN more frequently than I had liked. I switched to unscented dove per her instructions and used my unscented mixture as a moisturizer for years. It wasn’t until I met my husband and he started to use my products and learn about Savoy Cosmetics that Savoy Beauty was born and I decided to revamp into bath and body, something I was passionate about and was already making.
We started with body butters, bath salts, and lip scrubs. I then started to research other makers and found there are soooo many products we could offer that weren’t available HANDCRAFTED. I began to enter pop up shops in the DFW area to secure things for reestablishing my LLC in Texas, taking classes in order to perfect my craft and make sure I’m selling quality products, and better my labeling to be store ready.
In March 2020, our business sky rocketed almost quadrupling sales and increasing production heavily. We’ve gained a few wholesale accounts in our home town of Monroe, Louisiana and we are hoping to expand more in Dallas.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It wasn’t smooth at all, but I believe nothing worth having is. The biggest struggle was starting all over in Texas from Louisiana and having to build customers here while also keeping shipping costs at bay for my online customers. It slowed down for while but it allowed me to be able to learn and create! We now offer a wide range of products from bath and body to skin to hair!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We are a bath and body line that’s dedicated to making you “feel like ROYALTY”. And that’s whatever that means to you. If you feel like royalty when you’re dressed in your best, then we want to help you get ready! If you feel like royalty in lingerie, well PERFECT! We are here give those feels and the smells necessary. If you feel like royalty completely naked, our soaps and butters are sure to keep the skin royal as well. We specialize in vegan soaps; however we offer butters (soufflé), lotions (creams), face masks, body polish, skin care, hair care, and we also hand-crochet loofahs. They are made with 100% cotton yarn and are machine washable and dryer safe. They should last 4-6 months without needing a replacement and they do not trap dead skin cells, dirt, or bacteria like the nylon store bought ones. Basically everything you need to take care of the skin, body and/of face, we have it in stock!
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I think that we’ve stayed true to our brand since the beginning. We’ve made our marketing reflect our mission and we’ve taken the necessary step to make sure our products aren’t just pretty, but are quality! Finding classes and understanding my craft has allowed me to be able to be a creative! I can now mix and make my own creations, knowing they are safe.
