Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittney Bassett.
Hi Brittney, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
We got started with printing because 1: I worked in a small print shop for a while after leaving a job at Michaels craft store; which I LOVED. And 2: my husbands job sent him to a home and garden show. (he worked for a company that sells playsets and kayaks and folding tables, etc). When he had a break and walked the expo/show floor, he found another booth there that had an in-home screen print set up so he called me right away and said you should get over here and look at this!
So I did. And in 2013 we signed up to visit the company in Idaho, do training on their systems, and purchase equipment. At the time of leaving to visit, we were pretty set on a pad printing set up. However by the time we left, we had instead purchased a dye-sublimation printer, heat press, and large format vinyl plotter. From that point, we’ve just kept adding small pieces of equipment (book binding/book finishing, paper cutters, other sizes/types of heat presses, and just recently a small UV printer!).
We ran the business from our apartment(s) and then once we moved to Texas, in our home <(we moved 5 times since starting the business, and had our business set up in 4 of the 5 places we lived). Just a year ago, we felt we had grown enough in the 5 years since moving to Texas that we needed a retail space, so we've move out of our home!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Its had its ups and downs. We’ve not had any major struggles, and thanks to 2 major clients over the years (which we’ve now lost due to many reasons) we’re where we are today.
Our biggest struggle over time has been just getting the word out about ALL the things we can do.
We have been really lucky, and when my husband had a slump in his work, I’ve had an increase in my sales. And when I have had some slumps, he’s been in a stable job with steady income.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I love creating things. Physical and digital. I received my degrees in graphic design and photography (but decided fairly quickly I’d much rather work with products rather than people). I’ve always like art, crafts, and making things. So with the experience working in a print shop and finding an home-based apparel printing system, I have been able to be creating physical products for the better part of 13 years!
I specialize in Small business printing. I love to help them get started if they need branding guides and/or logos, or help them grow with tangible marketing products, merch, uniforms, and paper products (business cards, banners, flyers, yard signs, etc.)
I really can print ANYTHING!
I also like working with local community teams and events. We have been the uniform provider for a few years for a local community sports league, and have also been the provider of yard signs and lanyards for a local fun run since they started the run!
I think one of the things that sets me apart from others is thanks to my background and my likes and my skills, I am truly experienced in many processes and will always make sure my work is what my client wants!
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is being able to keep doing the things I love without the worry of funds or failure. This allows me to being a mom to my 3 girls, teachg piano, and travel, and create items for clients so they can see their vision come to life.
