Rising Stars: Meet Candy Jaimes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Candy Jaimes.

Candy Jaimes

Hi Candy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
In 2005, the founder Von Husbands achieved his dream of owning a restaurant when he opened Red Barn BBQ in Colleyville’s oldest commercial building. He quickly became known for wonderful food, including unique BBQ rubs, his grandmother’s banana pudding, and all-you-can-eat catfish on Friday nights,

Red Barn BBQ has become a staple in Colleyville for not only food but supporting our surrounding community. You can often find us hosting a fundraiser or inviting other local businesses into our restaurant.

Von Husbands tragically passed away in 2019 due to colon cancer. Prior to passing, Von came to my husband and I about carrying on his legacy and his recipes. Noel had been an employee and worked along Von’s side since 2007 at Red Barn BBQ. To continue his legacy of an established staple in the community has been a challenge. We took the business over during the COVID epidemic. Having never run a business, we have faced so many obstacles but have been supported by a grateful community.

The Jaimes family has owned the business now going on 3 years; we still take much pride and honor carrying on a legacy started by Husbands as we make it our own. Our customers love that our cozy dining room allows you to sit have a conversation over lightly played country music. We pride ourselves on continuing to serve USDA premium pecan smoked meats, making all our sides in-house daily, Friday AYCE catish, and our homemade banana pudding. As we continue to grow out goal is to continue to serve the community quality BBQ for many years to come.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Having never owned a business prior, we had to learn a lot which was a crucial in order for business continue to succeed; Covid also brought forth many challenges. Then after inflation came in as meat prices hit an all-time high.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Our specialty is our pecan slow-smoked BBQ. We only use pecan wood to smoke all our meats. We offer Brisket, Pulled Pork, Chicken, Turkey, 3 kinds of sausage, St. Louis Pork Ribs, and smoked wings. We have proudly been serving the community since 2005.
