Rising Stars: Meet Carly Gully

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carly Gully.

Hi Carly, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
It’s been a little over a decade since I first decided Graphic Design was my passion, but in the past year or so my passion has expanded in ways I didn’t imagine. I realized I was only capturing a small glimpse of the reality I was living in when it came to designing; I realized that I had more to offer. Finishing out my studies at Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design was the best decision I ever made as it set me up for creating a bigger drawing board for myself.

Designing is merely bringing reality to thought into what is seen, it’s all about making the idea stick. I started off just doing your typical everyday logos, hand-drawn logos, signature logos, vintage logos, and 3D logos. My work ranged from logos that are very professional to those that are intricate in detail and appeal to the client or field. But I felt like that was only the surface of what I could offer. So, I went back to school and received my Photography Certification so I could better assist clients. I’ve always been eager to evolve and add on new experiences as I grow as a Creative. I work with many companies and startup businesses that are building their brand and identity. I like to provide the best service, and my purpose is to provide quality digital media services that will help you to bring your vision to reality.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I work full-time as well as freelance in all my free time, so time is everything to me. It is so challenging sometimes to really structure my life. I can say there have been many, many sleepless nights, but I enjoy both my job and going after my dreams. In my mind, I think both are doable no matter how hard it is sometimes. I’m still looking for my perfect balance, but as an artist, nothing is really a smooth road or perfect balance.

The art realm is changing every single day; I get in my head quite a bit about it. Am I keeping up with the trends? Is my art connecting to the desired audience? Do my skills meet the client’s needs? How can I make this brand stick?

Art is so challenging because there’s really no right or wrong way; creativity is so subjective that the true nature of a design is always the eye of the beholder. So, what someone likes, someone might hate it can be difficult to get used to a process and then completely shift gears.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I design anything from car wraps, flyers, business cards, billboards, MDOs, and mostly print media, but I’m known for my logo creations and my ability to make my client’s words reality. I pride myself on creating logos that don’t look like someone else’s cause standing out is also standing apart. I hold myself on a high pedestal and would like to say I create designs that no one can match or attempt when it comes to logos. I also have the capability to create minimal to full creative jobs which also my work to range and allows me a broad portfolio.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was rebellious always getting into things. My mother would label me a troublemaker as a kid, but I found peace in basketball; graphic design took over my world.
