Today we’d like to introduce you to Chanel Owens.
Hi Chanel, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Thanks to the MTV show “The Hills,” I always dreamed of living the city life. Once I became an adult and started my big girl job, I made that dream come true and moved to Dallas! I was so excited to have a place to host girl’s night, sip wine, and spill tea! Although it wasn’t the hills, Mockingbird station was a great start. I saw someone on Instagram make a charcuterie board and I thought it would be perfect for my girl’s night! It was a big hit and so much fun to make. I fell in love with how creative you can get and how it brought people together! After a year of making them and making progress, many friends suggested I sell them. With a background in Nursing, I didn’t know where to start but with all the downtime during quarantine, I was able to get going. My friend Kelsey gave me some ideas on how to jumpstart and I had my first order for a Friendsgiving. My nickname is CoCo, so I thought it would be a fun and simple business name. My boyfriend was supportive from the beginning and helps me prep, shop, and deliver, I consider him Vice President.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say for the most part the road has been pretty smooth. My boyfriend, family, and friends have been so supportive, which makes the journey fun. I definitely struggled with overwhelming myself in the beginning and taking on too many orders for holidays. I was excited business was busy that I didn’t want to turn away customers. I’ve learned to say no and to trust the process.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Full time, I’m a Registered Nurse but my business specializes in charcuterie boxes! I’m most proud of how much I have improved and how quickly I was able to jumpstart this. My boxes stand out because of the variety of goodies inside!
Who else deserves credit in your story?
I definitely want to thank my Boyfriend, Ryan, definitely encouraged me and helped me get everything started and helped me with supplies and inventory. My best friend, Bria, was my first customer and trusted me with her Friendsgiving. My mom and dad help me deliver all over the DFW.
