Rising Stars: Meet Chelsea Green

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Green.

Hi Chelsea, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been in the wedding industry, doing wedding cakes for about 5 years prior to 2019. I was good at cakes but there as no passion there. I have always had a passion to do photography, but in my friend and professional circles many of them were photographers and I never wanted to compete or step on toes. So, I decided to stick to my iPhone photos of my kids and their adventures. When covid hit, being stuck in home with my family, mom of two boys- 5 and newborn it was almost impossible to keep an in-home bakery business afloat. I decided to jump head first into starting my photography business and was pleasantly surprised to find so much support and plenty of business to go around. I got the most basic camera and asked everyone I knew to model for me to build a portfolio. My family moved from Kansas to DFW the end of 2020 and I took on all the projects, weddings, parties, and shoots that I could. It honestly was one of the best decision. I was extremely fortunate to meet so many great vendors, clients, and photographers in such a short amount of time that I was pretty much able to get going in a new city very quickly.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has been interesting, not always smooth but definitely needed to go through the bumps to better me today. I was able to learn a lot on the job in addition to the extra time I would take to learn at home. Fumbling through things is a great way for me personally to learn. Juggling a new baby and getting my family settled in a new environment in addition to running a “pandemic born business” defiantly wasn’t easy. But I’m so grateful for what all the trials, good and bad brought me.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Jumping into a new business kind of allowed me to experience all photography had to offer. I got to shoot anything and everything and decide what I liked best. For me, that ended up being couples. I love love. I am literally so honored that I have clients who hire me to capture some of the most important moments in their lives. Being able to participate in a wedding day is so special to me. Specifically, to couples I love to capture them in their most true selves. I always try to dive deep into what’s important to them as a couple and curate a shoot to them. Nothing is off-limits, and being able to be comfortable and happy really shines through in the portraits. It’s not just about taking a picture it’s about capturing a lifelong memory.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Networking is so important. Get involved, get your name out there. It can be super intimidating to put not only yourself but your business a lot of us have built from the ground up out there on display to be judged. It definitely was scary for me to do that but once I got intertwined in circles and got my name out there, I realized that there were so many people out there who wanted me to succeed. WE can all win together and once you figure that out you become unstoppable. I rarely credit just myself. I owe all my accomplishments that I made in such a short period of time to pretty much everyone I came in contact with along the way. I found mentors everywhere along the way, other photographers more and less established than me. Clients, models, artist, and business owners. I was able to take knowledge from so many people. Even people who might now be in my field. Everyone has something to offer.
