Today we’d like to introduce you to Christian Sanchez.
Hi Christian, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Hello, my name is Christian Sanchez, but I go by “Chris Marcel”. I’m an audio engineer based out of NYC. I’ve been an audio engineer for four years now and love it. My story begins around 2018 when I was attending community college in New Jersey. I was studying to become a teacher and was in my third semester, I believe. During the semester, I decided to drop out and begin my music journey. Eventually, I enrolled in school again but for an audio engineering school called SAE. It was an 18-month program, and I was able to master my craft and build connections. While in school, I had two internships in two different studios in the city. This helped me find a job right away when I graduated. Also, I was my school’s student speaker at my graduation and eventually was inducted into the school’s hall of fame. Since my graduation, my career took off, and everything happened so fast. In just one year, I was able to create a name for myself. I started to work with some of the biggest artists in the city. Recently though, I decided to enter the AV world, and that has been a great challenge. As of right now, I currently have three jobs in my field. I work for multiple studios in the city, an AV tech for an insurance company, and an AV tech for a museum as well.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, not at all. Just how there was highs, there was lows as well, but that’s life. Every journey in life will have its ups and downs, but I believe you need to embrace both sides. At first, since I was new in this industry. I struggled finically and was barely able to cover basic necessities.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
So, I’m audio engineer but consider myself more of recording and mixing engineer. Throughout my career, I’ve been known as a very experimental and hard-working person. There’s many things I’m proud of; these past few years have felt like a dream. Out of all my accomplishments, I’m proud to be inducted into my school’s hall of fame. That will always mean the world to me since I’m still early in my career and young. What separates me from other engineers is myself awareness to always grow and never get complacent.
What matters most to you? Why?
I believe it’s being the best version of yourself and truly believing in yourself. It’s important to be your biggest fan but yet, your biggest critic as well.
