Today we’d like to introduce you to Daisy Close.
Hi Daisy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Thank you so much for having me! Of course, I would be so honored and delighted to share my story with your readers! I’ll start by saying my journey into the entertainment industry was not just one road or path but rather a combination of many directions, both near and far, that led me to ultimately culminate in my current destination. Ever since I was a little girl, I always knew that I was destined to become a performer one day. I grew up pretty shy and introverted, but I loved to sing, act, and dance. For a long time, it felt like that was the only way I knew how to express myself. It was evident how much happiness and joy it brought me, and I knew that it was something special that I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I grew up in a small town in Lavon, Texas. It was always hard for me to pursue the performing arts as a career, coming from a small town where big dreams like mine were unheard of. It didn’t help that there was little to no representation of what success looked like in the entertainment industry from anyone around my area. There was always a strenuous pressure I put on my shoulders from such a young age to make it out of my hometown. There was nothing wrong with the town, and I am very grateful to have grown up in a safe location, but I didn’t want to stay there, as I just couldn’t allow myself to eventually give up on what I truly knew was meant for me. Life is a precious gift, and the older I get, the more I realize how fast it goes by and how much we, as human beings, take it for granted. I want to make the most of my time on this earth, and the two most important things for me have always been following my dreams to become an inspirational difference-maker by leaving my own positive impact on this world and to spend time with my family and the ones I love very much. It’s always hard to find your own path to success that is also unique and true to who you are as an individual in the entertainment industry, as there is not one clear path to follow, and everyone comes from different beginnings and has a different story to offer and share as an artist. Some people might find that challenging, including myself, as it takes a while to discover how to find your voice and leave your legacy as a creative, but I now find it so compelling and inspiring to know that my story will never be the same as anyone else’s in the industry I am pursuing. I like to think that I’m leaving my own unique mark on the world and creating my own path towards achieving my dreams, one footstep at a time. Ever since I was a child, I learned how to be strong-minded and brave when it came to following my dreams. I faced a lot of rejection from a young age, so naturally, it gave me thick skin, and I had to deal with a lot of pressure and scrutiny from many people, including some of my friends and even family members. I knew I was meant to become a performing artist because even after all of the critical challenges I faced and the immense pressure I was constantly under, I could still hear my heart telling me to keep going after it. I learned how to rise above others’ opinions and to ignore others’ judgments, including how they perceived me. I used anything negative I faced as fuel for my dreams, and I knew that I had everything I needed to achieve my dreams and that anyone who was against me, who I was, and who I wanted to become, as hard as it was, wasn’t meant to be a part of my journey. I’ve found my journey into the entertainment industry to be a very humbling experience for me, as it has shown me who my real friends and family are and what morals I want to maintain as an artist myself. I am very thankful for the people who have believed in me since the very beginning and have never left my side, even when times became significantly difficult. The friends and family who have stuck by my side through thick and thin mean so much to me, and I wouldn’t trade them for anything in the world. I believe that remaining true to who I am as an artist and creative allowed me to open my own doors and create my own authentic approach by breaking down barriers and paving my own pathway into the entertainment industry.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As I mentioned earlier, there’s definitely been some bumps, curves, twists, and dips in the road, but I wouldn’t trade any of my life experiences for anything. There have been a lot of struggles I’ve faced along the way, not only in my journey into the entertainment industry but also in my personal life as well. Both the struggles I’ve faced while pursuing my dreams as well as the personal struggles I’ve faced have made me who I am today, not only as an individual but also as a creative and performing artist. I think the best artists use both the professional as well as personal difficulties they have inevitably faced in their lives into their art form by channeling their pain and sorrow into something beautiful in their own therapeutic and artistic way, offering them a safe space of healing and an outlet they need most to best express their innermost emotions and feelings. One of the hardest struggles I’ve faced along the way has to be when a certain family member close to me stepped away due to their own reasoning and left me in a very vulnerable and emotionally unstable state. It was very hard for me to comprehend, and it left me dealing with a lot of issues, including carrying around a mass amount of emotional baggage with me everywhere I went. It made me believe that there was something wrong with me and that I was the problem. I yearned for closure and for a realistic and heartfelt answer and apology. I think the hardest challenge was trying to grapple with my mental health and not let myself sink and drown, even when it felt like I couldn’t handle the pain any longer. Ever since that significant battle in my life, I have evolved in many ways, and I have discovered a new side to myself that I have never seen or imagined before. A side of vulnerability to let my walls down humanely so, but also a side of determination, strength, and drive like no other to show up for myself and not let the struggles I face determine the outcome of my future and my life. It made me realize that the most impactful thing I could do was show up for myself every single day and never take no for an answer. It made me realize that I was the one who ultimately determined the ending of the story I wanted to write for myself, not other people or their actions. I know I have something special to offer this world, so I’ll keep on fighting, and I won’t give up until I accomplish that mission. I made it a testimony to myself to be persistent and keep on pushing because now I know that when it is my time and when the right opportunity comes my way, my talent will be seen, heard, and recognized in the most rewarding way. In a way that nobody will be able to manipulate or come in between as hard as they might try. What is meant to be will be mine, but in the meantime, even though the strife, I promise I will continue to work hard, patiently, and pursue my dreams.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Absolutely! Well, if you don’t know yet, I am a singer, songwriter, and actress. I am known for singing a viral duet with Kelly Clarkson (1.5 million) featured on The Kelly Clarkson Show, for being a contestant on the last season of American Idol, and for releasing my own original music across all music streaming platforms and services. I am most proud of my work ethic and the originality and uniqueness I bring to the table as a triple threat. I believe that is one of the many traits that sets me apart from others in the entertainment industry. I also believe I have an important and impactful story to tell for myself through my art, along with a mission to positively impact others through doing what I do best. I want to not only share my story but also represent where I come from and my culture, as I am a proud American-Peruvian teenager in the entertainment industry. I want to break down more walls for inclusion and representation to show people all over the world that they can achieve anything they set their minds to so long as they work hard and believe in themselves and the power of their dreams.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
That’s a tough one! I have so many childhood memories to choose from, especially those pertaining to my lifelong love for the performing arts. I would have to say my favorite childhood memory has to be when I would put on concerts in my bedroom for my mom. I would spend hours listening to my favorite Kidz Bop CDs on an old beat-up radio I had in my room, and I would create a whole concert filled with choreography, costume changes, staging, lights, you name it, and then I would create my own little invitations written in crayon with lots of colorful words and drawings and give them to my mom and friends at school on the playground. I would also glue my invitations to a dream journal I had when I was younger, where I would journal all of my lifelong dreams once the concert was over. My poor mom had to deal with me constantly using all of her makeup, clothes, and shoes, not to mention always messing up the house by using lamps as lights and so much more mania. I endured to put on the best show I possibly could as a young child.
