Rising Stars: Meet Daneshe Bethune of Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daneshe Bethune

Hi Daneshe, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey in the nonprofit sector began humbly as a Youth Outreach Worker at the AIDS Outreach Center in Fort Worth. In this role, I had the privilege of engaging with young people throughout Tarrant County, focusing on HIV education and prevention. Working with youth ranging from ages 5 to 25 ignited a profound sense of purpose, passion, and compassion within me, setting the foundation for my career trajectory.

From there, I’ve had the privilege of contributing to several impactful organizations. At Bryan’s House, The Salvation Army DFW Metroplex Command, and Big Brothers Big Sisters Lone Star, I’ve been fortunate to lend my skills and dedication to causes close to my heart. Each experience has deepened my commitment to making a difference in the community and supporting the growth and well-being of those we serve.

My journey has led me to my current role as the Executive Director at C5 Texas, where I am privileged to lead an organization dedicated to youth leadership development in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. This role allows me to combine my expertise in nonprofit operations, fundraising, and strategic leadership with my passion for empowering young people to reach their full potential.

Throughout my career, I’ve remained steadfast in my belief in the power of compassion, purpose-driven work, and continuous growth. These principles have guided me through each role and continue to inspire me in my current endeavors at C5 Texas.

We have an expectations code in C5, and one of them says, “we build the future we wish to see”. I believe my journey has given me the chance to play a small role in building another person’s future.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Navigating the path hasn’t always been smooth, but it’s been incredibly fulfilling. My career has predominantly revolved around fundraising and development, roles that have empowered me to forge meaningful partnerships and impact lives in profound ways. One of the most impactful experiences was during my time at the AIDS Outreach Center, where I became deeply invested in the lives of our clients. Balancing empathy with professional distance was a challenge, but through fundraising, I discovered a powerful tool: the ability to convey our clients’ stories in a compelling manner, inspiring donors to invest in transforming futures while keeping myself grounded.

Every challenge I’ve encountered has been a catalyst for growth. These experiences have taught me to trust my instincts, stay true to myself, and embrace my personal journey while continually seeking knowledge. What some might view as obstacles, I’ve embraced as opportunities to elevate my performance, regardless of the circumstances or the leadership roles I’ve held.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As the Executive Director of C5 Texas, a dynamic youth leadership development program serving the Dallas/Fort Worth area, I play a pivotal role in guiding our organization towards achieving its strategic goals. Collaborating closely with our Board of Directors, I ensure that our initiatives align seamlessly with our long-term vision.

My responsibilities encompass overseeing daily operations and fostering strong partnerships within our dedicated C5 team, all driven by our collective mission to empower high-potential youth. With a robust background in nonprofit operations, fund development, strategic planning, financial management, compliance, and brand/public image, I bring a wealth of expertise to my role.

Notably, during my tenure at Big Brothers Big Sisters Lone Star, I orchestrated a significant partnership with JCPenney that resulted in a transformative gift through their “Round Up” program, raising over $1 million dollars to support our mission. Another impactful initiative was our collaboration with McDonald’s during National Mentoring Month, where Big Brothers Big Sisters Lone Star was prominently featured on tray liners in McDonald’s across the DFW Metroplex, amplifying our outreach and impact across Texas communities.

At C5 Texas, we’ve achieved recognition and support, including being honored as a Texas Rangers Foundation Legacy grant recipient and receiving the prestigious New York Life AIM High Foundation grant. These acknowledgments underscore our commitment to excellence and the positive outcomes we strive to achieve for our youth.

I believe in leading authentically, always embracing who I am without pretense. My approach is grounded in humility and a genuine concern for my own integrity, which ultimately drives my commitment to serving others and making a meaningful impact in our community.
