Rising Stars: Meet Destiny Gibson-Fugett of Glenn Heights

Today we’d like to introduce you to Destiny Gibson-Fugett

Hi Destiny, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My story is deeply rooted in family, food, and a personal journey toward better health. Growing up, I struggled with my weight and didn’t fully understand how food impacted my body. I was always leaning toward plant-based eating—never loving large amounts of meat and struggling with dairy—but I didn’t fully commit until my pregnancies forced me to take a closer look. After experiencing gestational diabetes and preeclampsia, I started researching and experimenting with plant-based cooking. By my fourth pregnancy, I had lost over 100 pounds and had my healthiest pregnancy yet. That transformation made me realize just how powerful food can be in healing and nourishing our bodies.

That’s why I created The Destined Kitchen. I saw so many people, especially in my own community, struggling with preventable health issues linked to diet. I wanted to share my journey and make plant-based eating feel approachable, delicious, and sustainable for anyone—whether they want to go fully plant-based or simply eat less meat. My goal is to provide recipes, guidance, and encouragement without judgment—just real food, real experiences, and real results. But my journey hasn’t been perfect. Over time, I gained the weight back, especially with the rise of plant-based restaurant options that were delicious but often highly processed. Now, I’m focused on finding balance—enjoying the foods I love while nourishing my body in a way that supports my long-term health.

At the same time, my family is my foundation. The Unfugettable Family is where we share our real-life adventures, challenges, and everyday moments as a busy family of six. My kids are multi-talented—whether it’s acting or sports—and I love supporting their dreams while keeping our family connected through food, fun, and unforgettable memories.

Together, these two platforms reflect my passion: making plant-based living accessible and showing that a full, joyful life is possible with a little creativity, a lot of love, and a focus on what truly matters.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but every challenge has shaped me into who I am today. My journey with health, family, and business has been full of ups and downs.

When it comes to my health, I’ve had to navigate serious wake-up calls. I struggled with my weight for years, and my pregnancies brought even more challenges—gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, and the realization that my diet was affecting not just me but my children, too. When I went fully plant-based, I lost over 100 pounds and had my healthiest pregnancy. But the road didn’t stop there. Over time, I gained the weight back, especially as plant-based restaurant options became more accessible but often highly processed. That was a tough reality check, but it reminded me that balance is key—being plant-based doesn’t automatically mean being healthy. I had to re-learn how to nourish my body properly.

On the personal side, I went through a divorce, which was one of the hardest periods of my life. Navigating that while raising four kids was incredibly tough. But by the grace of God, love and growth brought us back together, and we reconciled two years later. That experience reminded me that Gods plans are better than ours and it showed me the importance of fighting for what truly matters, and building something stronger from the lessons learned.

Starting The Destined Kitchen also has its share of struggles. I created it because I saw so many people struggling with preventable health issues tied to diet, and I wanted to show that plant-based eating could be simple, budget-friendly, and delicious. But building a platform from scratch wasn’t easy. I had to rebuild my entire website after it collapsed, and balancing content creation with family life has been a challenge. On top of that, social media can be unpredictable—sometimes you put your heart into something, and it doesn’t get the response you hoped for. But I remind myself why I started: to help others, to share my journey, and to make a difference in people’s lives.

Through it all, my family has been my foundation. The Unfugettable Family is where we share our real, unfiltered lives—the joys, the chaos, and everything in between. I’m learning that success isn’t just about the perfect post or recipe—it’s about showing up, being authentic, and creating something meaningful.

The road has been anything but smooth, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. The struggles have made the victories even sweeter, and I’m grateful for every lesson along the way!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I wear many hats, but at the heart of it all, I’m a content creator, plant-based food blogger, and the driving force behind The Destined Kitchen and The Unfugettable Family.

With The Destined Kitchen, I specialize in creating simple, budget-friendly, plant-based recipes that help people transition to a healthier lifestyle without feeling overwhelmed or deprived. I focus on showing that plant-based meals can be delicious, satisfying, and accessible for everyone—whether you’re fully plant-based or just looking to eat less meat. My content goes beyond just recipes; I also share practical tips, meal prep strategies, and insights from my personal health journey. What sets me apart is my real-life approach—I’ve lived through the struggles of weight gain, health scares, and balancing a busy family life, so I understand how challenging it can be to prioritize health. I keep it real, judgment-free, and encouraging, because I know firsthand that change doesn’t happen overnight.

On the family side, The Unfugettable Family is where I share the joys and chaos of raising four kids, supporting their passions in acting and sports, and making lasting memories together. We’re all about real-life moments—whether it’s celebrating milestones, navigating challenges, or just having fun as a family. Our journey has had its ups and downs, including a divorce and reconciliation, but through it all, we’ve built something truly special.

What I’m most proud of is being able to inspire others—whether it’s helping someone feel confident about trying plant-based meals for the first time or showing families that it’s possible to prioritize health while still enjoying life. I’ve had to rebuild The Destined Kitchen from scratch, and despite the challenges, I continue to create, learn, and grow.

What sets me apart is my authenticity and my deep connection to the work I do. I’m not just sharing recipes—I’m sharing my journey, my experiences, and my passion for helping others. I want people to know that plant-based eating can be flexible, enjoyable, and realistic for busy families. And I want to encourage others to embrace their own journeys—because real life, real love, and unforgettable fun are what truly matter.

How do you think about luck?
I don’t really believe in luck—I believe in being blessed and favored! Every high and low in my life has been a part of my journey, shaping me into who I am today. I’ve faced challenges that could have broken me, but instead, they strengthened me and pushed me toward growth.

There have been tough moments—struggles with my health, experiencing gestational diabetes and preeclampsia, losing 100 pounds only to gain it back, losing my job and even going through a divorce. But through faith, healing, and reflection, my family was restored. Even when The Destined Kitchen website completely collapsed, what seemed like a setback was really a setup for something greater—it gave me the chance to rebuild it with even more clarity and purpose.

At the same time, I’ve experienced so many blessings. I have an incredible support system, I get to share my passion for plant-based cooking, help others transition to a healthier lifestyle, and create memories with my family. I’ve seen doors open, opportunities align, and the right people come into my life at the perfect time.

I truly believe that every experience—good or bad—is meant to teach us something. Instead of dwelling on what went wrong, I focus on how I can grow through it. My faith keeps me grounded, and I trust that every challenge is leading me toward something greater. So no, I don’t think I’ve just been “lucky”—I know I’ve been blessed, and I’m committed to using those blessings to pour into others.
