Today we’d like to introduce you to Devante Sanders.
Hi Devante, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started off wanting to invest in something but did not know specifically what I wanted to invest in. I knew that e-commerce was the new wave and that online-only stores are the future of retail. I also realized that the beauty industry is very robust and always thriving so I decided to invest in opening a Black-owned Beauty Supply store because I felt like there are not enough of them. I am the youngest owner of a black-owned beauty supply store in the DFW. The Barber Plug Supply Co. officially opened October 1, 2020. My store functions through a hybrid model. All products can be purchased online and picked-up, dropped-off or traditional shipping options are available. Through our marketing tactics we have been able to do well over $100,000 in sales in Q4 of 2020.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Sourcing products at times can be difficult due to high demand. However, we have been able to connect and build relationships with large name beauty brands such as Gamma, Andis, Babyliss and Wahl.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I build relationships with barbers to get them the highest quality products at the best price. I specialize in the beauty industry, more specifically the barber industry. Although, being an entrepreneur and business owner you have to wear many hats; market, brand, source products, package, drop-off and ship, I make sure to always give back. I am most proud of giving over $2000 in clippers and supplies to barber students enrolled at Texas Fades Barber College. What sets me apart from others is my ability to relate and build relationships with all of my customers. I do my best to meet them where they are at and fulfill any needs within my will-house.
