Rising Stars: Meet Dustin Pressley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dustin Pressley.

Hi Dustin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hey everyone!! I’m Dustin, The Wicked Stylist! Here is a little about my background. I love being on stage. Performing is my true passion in this and every life. It was my passion for the stage that brought me into the world of hair and makeup. I was going to school at Tarrant County College and I took every drama class they offered. When I didn’t get the part in a play or musical, I was working backstage. That’s when I discovered my passion for hair and makeup. After doing the hair and makeup for a couple of shows, I decided to ultimately drop college and go to Paul Mitchell, the School for cosmetology!

After a year, I graduated and been working my butt off ever since! After getting a job at a full-service salon, I realized that I didn’t really want to be working for someone else. So I decided to open my own business. I started running my own salon business out of a small salon in Mansfield called Brick & Mortar Salon. Worked there for a year, and got a job at DryBar in Fort Worth to help my career along. After realizing my future was in Fort Worth I ultimately left Brick & Mortar and now I run my business out of Salon and Spa Galleria off West 7th in Downtown Fort Worth!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have been running my own business for two years and it has not been smooth at all. It is hard work. Anyone who says it’s easy is lying through their teeth. You have to be the boss, the employee, the stock team, the customer service team, and the HR person all at the same time. But I wouldn’t change a thing! I love being my own boss. Sometimes I have to be hard on myself and make the tough choices but so far, this is really working the way it’s supposed to. I work 40+ hours a week, so sometimes I have to sacrifice a social life, dating, and other things for my business and my clients, but I know that to get where I want to be in life, I have to work hard and harder right now.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
COLOR!!!! Especially Vivid colors! I love to bring out the Wicked vibes in everyone! Color to me isn’t just taking someone from basic brown to royal purple. It’s a journey. To me, it’s the transformation. To see my clients tell me what they want and then when they see the color once it’s done… seeing that smile on their face. It makes it all worthwhile to me.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Happiness. Mine and my clients. I love making my clients as happy as possible, which makes me happy!
