Today we’d like to introduce you to Edel Farah.
Hi Edel, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always had a love for capturing moments from an early age. I was the girl with a disposable camera on hand, capturing everyone and making sure to print doubles at Ekerds (yes, I said print) to share what I captured with friends. Usually, with a cheesy message on the back. Fast forward to college, I decided to treat myself to my first DSLR camera as my graduation gift. That camera has traveled the world me, capturing countless memories. Somewhere along the way, it started collecting dust and it wasn’t getting used as much. It wasn’t until my daughter was born four years ago that it ignited a fire in me again. I wanted to capture every moment, every milestone. I wanted to freeze every moment to cherish forever. Honestly, it became a creative outlet for me that brought me joy.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Photography isn’t my full-time job yet so finding the time to juggle my 9-5 and my busy little family gets tough sometimes. I try to incorporate my family in my photography journey, taking them on adventures with me to explore new parks and scout for new locations to shoot. It’s truly a family affair and I enjoy every bit of it.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in families, motherhood, and maternity. I’m drawn to capturing the true connection between loved ones and telling their story. Oftentimes, parents are so focused on getting their child(ren) to look at the camera and smile the whole session, but I love following the children’s lead. Capturing them playing with their parents or siblings, snuggling mom or dad, laughing, and dancing. It’s the authentic moments I love to capture and the ones I find families enjoy the most.
How do you define success?
I define success as being happy. No amount of degrees or salary can define your success if they do not bring you joy. Happiness is the end goal always.
