Rising Stars: Meet Elaine Stoltz of Southwest Fort Worth, Texas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elaine Stoltz.

Hi Elaine, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
A 35-Year Journey Helping People Discover Their Best Colors

When I began my career as an image consultant more than 35 years ago, I had no idea how profoundly color could change a person’s life. Like many image consultants at the time, I started with traditional seasonal color analysis. It was the accepted method, and I believed it was the best way to help my clients. But it didn’t take long for me to notice something important—many people simply didn’t fit neatly into four seasonal categories.

My clients deserved better. That realization set me on a journey that has shaped my entire career. I became determined to understand human coloring at a much deeper level. I studied how skin tone, eye color, hair color, value, intensity, and contrast work together to create each person’s unique coloring. The more I learned, the more convinced I became that every individual is unique and that their color palette should be just as unique.

Instead of placing people into broad categories, I developed a truly customized system of color analysis. Today, I work from a collection of approximately 1,000 fabric swatches, carefully selecting more than 100 colors that harmonize with each client’s natural coloring. Every palette is individually created—there are no pre-made palettes and no “one-size-fits-all” solutions.

Over the years, I have had the privilege of helping thousands of women and men discover colors that make them look healthier, younger, and more vibrant. Clients often tell me they finally understand why certain clothes have remained unworn in their closets for years, while others have always made them feel confident without knowing why.

Color has the power to transform much more than a wardrobe. When people wear colors that naturally harmonize with their own coloring, they often find shopping becomes easier, getting dressed becomes less stressful, and they project greater confidence both personally and professionally. They stop buying clothes they never wear and begin building wardrobes that work together beautifully.

The field of color analysis has experienced a tremendous resurgence in recent years, introducing a new generation to the power of personal color. While trends come and go, my commitment has remained the same: to provide every client with an accurate, individualized analysis based on who they are—not on a predetermined category.

For more than 35 years, my mission has been to help people discover the colors that reflect their natural beauty and express their authentic selves. It has been an incredible journey, and I continue to learn, teach, and refine my approach every day.

Because the best color analysis isn’t about fitting into a season. It’s about discovering the colors that were always meant for you.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The Biggest Challenge of My 35 Years in Business Wasn’t My Competition—It Was Being Found
When I started my image consulting business more than 35 years ago, the world looked very different. There was no internet. No social media. No Google searches. No Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube.

Growing a business meant building relationships one person at a time. I spoke to community organizations, attended networking events, mailed newsletters, asked for referrals, and earned every client through trust and reputation. It wasn’t fast, but it worked. If you consistently delivered exceptional service, your business grew.

And that’s exactly how I built mine. Over the years, I developed a reputation for custom color analysis, body style analysis, cosmetics, skincare, and image consulting. Clients referred their friends, then their daughters, and eventually even their granddaughters. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing generations of families return because they value the service you’ve provided. But as rewarding as that has been, the greatest challenge I’ve faced has never been delivering excellent results.

The greatest challenge has been helping people discover that my business even exists. Unlike a restaurant or clothing boutique, image consulting isn’t something most people think to search for. Many people don’t even realize professional image consultants exist or understand how personalized color analysis can transform the way they shop, dress, and present themselves.

That has always been my biggest marketing hurdle. Today, that challenge has changed once again. Social media has completely transformed the way businesses compete for attention. Decades ago, success depended largely on reputation and referrals. Today, expertise alone is often not enough. A business can provide outstanding service yet remain virtually invisible if it doesn’t have a strong online presence.

Large companies employ teams dedicated to marketing, photography, video production, advertising, and search engine optimization. Small business owners wear all those hats themselves—while also serving clients, managing finances, creating products, and keeping the business running every day.

For many of us, becoming a marketing expert was never part of the plan. Yet today we’re expected to understand algorithms, produce engaging videos, create content consistently, manage multiple social media platforms, analyze performance metrics, optimize websites, write blogs, send email campaigns, and keep up with constantly changing technology.

It can feel overwhelming. I’ve learned that social media isn’t simply about posting pretty pictures. It’s about educating, building trust, telling your story, and consistently showing people the value you provide. People want authenticity. They want to know the person behind the business. They want confidence that the professional they choose has both experience and credibility.

That realization has changed the way I think about marketing. Instead of trying to “sell,” I focus on teaching. I share what I’ve learned over more than three decades of helping clients discover their best colors, understand their body architecture, and build wardrobes that truly work for them. Education allows people to experience the value of my expertise before they ever schedule an appointment.

People still want to work with someone they trust. As small business owners, we face challenges that didn’t exist a generation ago. We must adapt to new technology while staying true to the values that built our businesses in the first place. For me, that means continuing to learn, continuing to teach, and continuing to help each client discover the confidence that comes from looking like the very best version of themselves.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As my career evolved, so did my understanding of image. I came to see myself as an “architect of the body,” using color, line, proportion, and design to create visual harmony. This philosophy expanded my services beyond color analysis to include body style analysis, cosmetics, skincare, and professional image development.

Education has also become one of my greatest passions. Through the Stoltz Image Institute, I have trained and mentored image consultants who now serve clients of their own. Sharing knowledge and helping others grow professionally has become one of the most rewarding aspects of my career. I have written a book titled “The Art of Custom Color Analysis.”

Throughout my journey, I have been honored to earn the designation of AICI Certified Image Master (CIM), the highest recognition in the image consulting profession. I have also had the privilege of serving as International President of the Association of Image Consultants International (AICI), working alongside talented professionals from around the world to advance our industry.

Yet after more than three decades, what excites me most hasn’t changed. I still love watching a client’s face light up when they see themselves wearing the right colors. That moment of recognition—when they realize they look brighter, healthier, and more like themselves—is as rewarding today as it was when I began.

Every individual is unique and that their color palette should be just as unique.

I am an artist who uses fabric colors to create a work of art instead of using paint colors.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Color Analysis has had a resurgence in popularity. The Seasons color analysis method from the 1980’s has resurfaced but the color experts in the image industry realize that that method is obsolete. We must educate the general public on the value of an individualized color analysis.
