Rising Stars: Meet Erica Murphy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erica Murphy.

Hi Erica, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I love sharing my story about how I got started. I believe it is important to pursue what it is you truly love to do. For me, I know I love to create, and the way I love to create is through Interior decor and design. Interior design has always been my passion. I studied Architecture and Interior Design in College. My college professor asked me, “What is your dream?” I replied: “To be an interior designer on HGTV!” but then, life had a change, of course, for me. I have always had an eye for design, decor, and will walk into a space and re-design the area in my mind, sounds crazy, I know, but if you are a creative, you get it! I guess my original dream faded, and I never took the leap of faith until now. My passion has never left, my love for design has never left; it’s all in divine timing. My passion to help people and my passion for design are the reasons why I created Erica L. Murphy Interiors, it is my belief that everything comes around full circle. I started with just an idea on how I can express my creativity and show my work, I started with creating digital design mockups such as 2D e-designs of a space, concepts, and mood boards. I have recently expanded my business to now offering in-home interior decorating services!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I don’t think there’s such thing as a smooth road to success. I am learning this is no cakewalk. Success is not a destination; it is a journey full of ups and downs. Starting a business from the ground up can be very challenging when you are in what feels like uncharted territory. My struggles have been in my desire to go so hard that I forget to take a break. Taking a break keeps me from burning out and helps me recharge. I’m learning it is okay to give myself permission to pause. Knowing when and how to balance it all can be difficult. During those breaks, I have to remind myself to celebrate the small wins along the way, that is what keeps me going! When starting my business, I had several goals and several ideas of how I wanted this thing to go. But realistically, things don’t always go as planned. My most difficult moments challenged me to let go of the outcome, and when I do that, I can freely create and be okay with trial and error. Finding what works and what doesn’t without the pressure. It hasn’t been easy, but it definitely has been worth it.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
I am learning that when you force things to happen or try to force opportunities, it just doesn’t work. When it flows, it’s meant to be. I feel so blessed to have doors open that I never imagined, making connections with people who are willing to help guide and be a resource in my business journey. I am grateful for the good and the bad because all of it is preparing me for the next level. Everything is flowing and aligning for my business right now, and I couldn’t be happier, it’s the right timing. I wouldn’t call it luck, the open doors and closed doors were all part of the plan in my life and my business, I’m blessed.
