Today we’d like to introduce you to Evony Siegmyer.
Hi Evony, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am a loctician (I do locs) in Addison. I had been doing locs on and off for 7 years while in college and working in corporate America. I left corporate America and started doing locs full-time 3 and a half years ago. I have a small suite and I’ve been at the same shop, Famous the Barbershop, the entire 3.5 years.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In the beginning, business was super slow. It took some time growing my clientele. The first year was slow but year 2, my business revenue increased by about 126%. It continued to increase going into year 3 as well. The main struggle I’ve had is being consistent on my social media because when the follower/engagement count doesn’t increase how I’d like, it’s hard to stay motivated and show up consistently online.
Within the last few months, business had decreased a lot but seeming to pick back up now. I believe God took me through this time of decrease because He was bringing me closer to Him and teaching me to really trust Him, especially in my business where I used to solely rely on myself.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a loctician so my specialty is locs- specifically retwists, interlocking, and microlocs reties. The thing I am proud of is what sets me apart from other business owners and that is my customer service. My client retention rate is high because I aim to not only provide a great service for your locs but also good vibes with good conversation, a comfortable environment and problem-solving, if necessary. I also care for the health of my client’s locs and communicate to them any concerns and recommendations I have for their hair.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Consistency is key. Even when things don’t look how you want them to, not going how you want it to, keep showing up and providing quality service. Most importantly, if you believe in God, give the business and outcome over to Him, trust Him, and if it’s in His will for you, it will work out how it’s supposed to. Have faith and put in the work.
