Rising Stars: Meet Fernando Hernandez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Fernando Hernandez.

Hi Fernando, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
It all started when I picked up a camera for my family vacation in 2017, I was 16 at the time. Took some pictures at the beach, of seagulls, of family, etc. Then came back home and started practicing with my friends and others as well. I had a mentor at my high school who I would go to after every photoshoot and gave me feedback and from there it started my business. Around 2018-2019 I started going to meet-ups with local photographers and models, got some really nice photos and feedback as well. 2019-Present, I have 4 years of doing photography; from portraits to weddings, ceremonies. I’ve become a reliable and credible Photographer at the age of 20. My company Hernandez Photography has been a success for the past 4 years and counting. From hobby to business, photography has opened up many doors for me and has expanded my creativity in so many ways. That is my story of Hernandez Photography and how it started.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For the most part, it has been smooth, from 2017-2019 has been a blast to do so many photos. When the pandemic hit in 2020, I will be honest, I lost all sense of creativity and motivation for my passion. I hit block after block and for a while, I didn’t even touch my camera. Then I gave it some thought and got up dusted off the camera and started coming up with ways to improve and get more creative. Towards the end of 2020 and going into 2021 I started getting more clients back and there was that spark again when I first started. I didn’t want a small setback ruin what I had built.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a photographer, graphic designer, and content creator. I specialize in Portrait Photography most of the time. I’m known for my creative ways of doing photos, finding ways to intrigue the eye and please my audience. My most phenomenal moment is when I did a milk bath photoshoot for the first time. My great friend and fellow content creator allowed me to be her guinea pig for this idea. It was pretty nerve-racking because it was my first time and I wanted the best for her and her photos. Turns out we both loved the way they came out and it’s been a great learning experience to do it.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Oh gosh, where do I start! Well first my mentor Christopher Glenn a High School Graphic Design Teacher, has helped me build my portfolio and my company since it was an idea that popped into my head. He has helped me achieve where I am now.

My best friends Jennifer Morales and Daniel Rubaclava, have been the most supportive in my journey. After every photo shoot, they would have the first copies of my published work and I would get great feedback from both of them. I appreciate everything they did for me and my company.

My first models are also very supportive as well, if it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t be where I am at now.
