Hi Heather , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My love for photography started with my grandmother, who always had a camera in her hands and taught me how powerful pictures can be. When my daughter was born, that passion was reignited as I documented every little moment of her life. Nearly 19 years later, it’s my amazing Chunky Monkey families—along with years of learning, practice, and a whole lot of fun—who have truly brought me to where I am today.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Beyond learning the art of photography, one of my biggest struggles has been balancing running a business while raising a family. Having babies and not wanting to leave them to return to work is something many mothers understand deeply—especially when photography doesn’t end after the session is over. The real work often happens late at night, sitting and editing for hours while the house is quiet. During the day, there’s the business side to manage: social media, emails, phone calls, and everything in between. Photography can also be a surprisingly lonely profession—there are no coworkers or team meetings. It’s just you. While it’s all part of running a business I love, it can definitely be tough.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a photographer of many things. I love documenting the beauty of maternity, capturing the sweet, fleeting moments of newborns, watching kiddos grow as they turn into little personalities, and preserving the fun, love, and connection within families.
More than anything, I am most proud of continuing to grow and build my craft, always striving to be better for the families who trust me with their memories.
I like to think what sets me apart in my industry is how personal I am with my clients. They aren’t just sessions on a calendar—they are people and families, and I am trusted with capturing their memories, moments they’ll carry with them forever.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My advice for those just starting out is to set your goals high and don’t stop until you reach them. There will be mountains to climb along the way, but if you put your whole heart into it, you truly can do it.
