Rising Stars: Meet Heather Harvey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Harvey.

Hi Heather, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hi! My name is Heather Harvey, owner, master photographer, and digital artist of Heather Harvey Photography. I first fell in love with photography during my childhood when my dad gave me my first camera; a 110 film, hot pink, Barbie camera with the old cube flash that sat on top. It wasn’t until later in life that I realized what I was destined to do with my photography and artwork…to tell stories and give others a voice through pictures. They say a picture is worth a 1,000 words. I never understood the depth of that phrase until I started creating my personal project of my story.

I started with just taking pictures but I have grown personally and professionally to build a business where I get to create artwork for my clients. I have invested endless hours learning and developing my skills. I have been taught/mentored and continue to learn from some of the best photographers in the industry like Master Photographer, Mark McCall, and Master Photographer/Artist, Richard Sturdevant. I have been published, won awards, and most recently accomplished earning my Master of Photography Degree. I am currently working on earning my Master Artist Degree.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey and life experiences have been anything but smooth. It’s been a journey of ups and downs, struggles and victories, many great losses, and endured lots of life lessons to get me to where I am today. I have been asked to share my story many times but either did not have the courage to speak about it or the emotional strength so I started a personal project to tell my story through my artwork. Through this project, I have realized how much healing I needed and had experienced through the process. Working on this project I realized that this is my why. To create artwork to reach the next intended viewer.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a children and family photographer specializing in creative and fine-art portraiture. I want to give others an experience of telling their story. My goal is to work every day to fill this world with as many stories as I am entrusted with from my clients.

With the use of set building and detailed lighting, my custom sessions create experiences that my clients can immerse themselves in so that I can capture the authenticity of their story. I want to make sure that the final artwork is something my clients are proud and excited to share. I also help my clients choose the perfect style of product to display their artwork. I build and develop relationships with my clients that makes this whole process easy while they build invaluable memories that they will cherish forever.

Everyone has a story to tell and the best story is the story that others can relate to. Whether your audience is family, friends, or strangers, it matters to the one who needs to see it. It’s never too late to tell your story and I am most proud of having the opportunities to help create and tell them.
