Rising Stars: Meet Iman Serbones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Iman Serbones.

Iman Serbones

Hi Iman, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I took pictures on my phone in high school of family, friends, open mics, school events, etc. A family member gifted me a camera when they noticed me enjoying this hobby. Since then, I’ve photographed my favorite artists, countless concerts and have traveled to share my passion with others and help people share their stories. This brings me joy, and I’m grateful for those who I’ve met from this and those I have yet to meet.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No journey has smooth roads. I remember seeing others getting gigs and working music festivals, concerts, meeting celebrities, and I felt discouraged from that, wondering when my time will come. I spoke with some of those folks, and learned that they had shared a similar experience as mine. They gave me advice on ways to get my foot in the door, and since applying that advice, I’ve gotten more exposure. Comparison is the thief of joy, and I’ve learned that fellow creatives aren’t competition – they’re doing their own thing, and some are willing to help if you ask.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in concert, event and product photography. My work has been featured in multiple magazines, Instagram reels, and newspapers worldwide. What sets me apart from others is my passion for my work. I love what I do and appreciate the people I work with. It’s one thing to have expensive, high quality equipment that will produce great work but if the motivation/drive isn’t there, it’ll barely be half as impactful, in my opinion.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Discipline – because consistency, determination and honesty are intertwined with discipline. If I don’t stay consistent, I’ll get distracted. I stay determined because I’m comfortable knowing I’m one step closer to my goals than I was yesterday. I’m honest with myself on my strengths and areas where I can grow. It all blends in, and for me, these are the most important traits as a person and as an artist.
