Today we’d like to introduce you to Jade Johnson.
Hi Jade, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a self-taught photographer/videographer and editor from Louisiana. In 2016, I moved to Dallas to open up myself to a new scene and more opportunities. My mom bought me my first camera when I was in 7th grade. YouTube was becoming popular at that time, so I created a channel and started recording/editing videos. It started out as something fun I would do for family and friends. Over the years I’ve dabbled in photography/videography as a hobby, but it wasn’t until two years ago that I built up the confidence to make it my career. For so long I had let the fear of not receiving support keep me from doing what I love, and then something in my heart told me “Jade, you have a gift. Use it.” For the last two years, I have built/created a brand that people recognize and praise.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The struggles I’ve faced so far along my journey have been self-inflicted. When you don’t see the results, you hope for right away, it is easy to start doubting yourself or feeling as though “maybe this is just not for me.” I am so grateful that I haven’t let those thoughts deter me from my passion. Every day I find ways to improve my skills and find avenues to reach new audiences. I am confident that in due time, I will reach the level of success I’ve always dreamed of and strived for.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a freelance photographer/videographer based in Dallas but available for travel gigs. My specialty is event photography and promotional/recap videos. However, I offer many other services such as portraits, weddings, holiday shoots, pet photography, podcasts, YouTube intros, and more. People often tell me they can easily spot my work because of my editing style. I always aim to provide a vintage look, almost as if the photo was taken by an old Polaroid. I am most proud that despite my doubts and fears about pursuing my dream, I have established a name for myself and my brand that people recognize and support.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I wouldn’t say “luck” has played any role (good or bad) in my life or business. I have always had a very strong support system around me. Everything I’ve accomplished and learned along the way, I owe to God, my family, and close friends. So, I wouldn’t consider it luck, but I am fortunate and grateful for the opportunities I’ve been awarded.
