Rising Stars: Meet Jakarie Ross

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jakarie Ross.

Jakarie Ross

Hi Jakarie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in Oak Cliff, a small neighborhood in the southern Dallas area. I’ve always been pretty creative since childhood, but I couldn’t have ever imagined where that would eventually take me. I started out studying graphic design in high school and went on to study Advertising and Branding Design at The Art Institute of Dallas. I fell in love with branding very quickly. The idea of being able to transform a business to make them marketable visually was exciting to me. Since then, my professional career advanced quickly and I was able to pick up some notable clientele big and small. I have served multiple corporate and non-profit organizations, including T.D. Jakes Ministries and Glacier Homes, revamping businesses and brands across the country. I’ve actually picked up food + portrait photography and videography and would like to think I’m pretty good at haha. Today I work as Marketing/Advertising Manager for Kitchen + Kocktails by Kevin Kelley, Kelley Law Firm, and Club Vivo in the heart of Downtown Dallas.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
By biggest obstacle was finding my niche. What works for me? There’s so many types of design, photography, and videography. I just found what made me the happiest. What came second nature to me. Also understanding that there is always room for growth and always opportunity to be better.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out.
I think of the saying, “It’s not what you know that matters; it’s what you do with what you know,” but I’m not sure who said it. That’s all well and good, but I’d like to go a bit further. Because the important thing is not what you do with what you know but rather how long you do what you know.

Everybody knows that knowledge is insufficient. However, sometimes, doing what you know is insufficient as well.

The world is full of noise and information. So, discipline and consistency are more important than anything else.
