Rising Stars: Meet Jamila Tyson of Princeton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamila Tyson.

Hi Jamila, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My story starts long before I ever knew I’d become a wellness coach. From my mom cooking homemade meals almost every day to my dad keeping me active in sports, wellness was naturally built into my childhood. Without even realizing it, they were laying the foundation for the way I would value nutrition and physical activity as an adult. I also grew up watching my grandfather walk every day and talk about the importance of exercising the mind. These are lessons that didn’t make sense to me until adulthood, but the seed and the importance of living a healthy lifestyle was planted at a young age.

Fast forward: I spent 19 years in a marriage where I slowly lost myself to emotional and some instances of physical abuse. In 2020, I made one of the hardest decisions of my life: I left! I had no roadmap, five kids, and a deep desire to heal, not just survive. What started with walking, mindset work, and learning to understand my own body quickly evolved into a passion for helping other women do the same.

I recorded my very first wellness video shortly after my divorce in 2020. I didn’t have a brand, a plan, or a platform, just a message on my heart. That video sparked something in me, led to conversations, and ultimately guided me toward becoming a Total Wellness Coach and Root Cause Wellness Strategist. A full circle moment for me!

Over the years, I’ve focused on helping high-achieving women and busy moms understand their bodies, reduce stress, optimize hormones, and create sustainable healthy habits without “band-aid” fixes. My work blends mindset, lifestyle medicine, nervous system regulation, and practical habit-building to help women feel aligned, energized, and in control again.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Whew! The road has been anything but smooth. Healing from a 19-year marriage with emotional abuse and a few instances of physical abuse meant I had to rebuild myself mentally, emotionally, and financially while raising my beautiful children. There were seasons of fear, uncertainty, and starting from scratch.

I also had to unlearn survival mode and re-learn how to care for my own wellbeing. And stepping into the wellness space professionally came with its own obstacles; imposter syndrome, rebuilding confidence, and learning how to turn my pain into purpose.

But those struggles became my fuel. They’re the reason I can guide other women through their own rebuilding process with compassion and clarity.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a Root Cause Wellness Coach/Strategist, and my work sits at the intersection of science, mindset, and lived experience. I have had the privilege of partnering and training with multiple Integrative /Functional medicine doctors and natrapaths. I specialize in helping high-achieving women and busy moms optimize their hormones, regulate their nervous systems, rebuild energy, improve sleep, and create sustainable, real-life habits that support lasting health. I also help women understand the root causes of their weight struggles, whether it’s hormone imbalances, insulin resistance, chronic stress, or nervous system dysregulation, so they can achieve weight loss in a healthy, aligned, and sustainable way.

What sets me apart is that I don’t deal in surface-level wellness or quick fixes. I aim to get to the root of stress, burnout, and imbalance. I’m known for picking up on the subtle cues, the things clients say between the lines, and using those insights to help them create powerful, lasting change.

What I’m most proud of is empowering women to shift their thinking and live with intention and conviction. I love witnessing those “aha” moments when a limiting belief breaks open, and a woman steps fully into her power. It’s not just the weight loss, hormone optimization, or nervous system regulation; it’s seeing clients gain clarity, confidence, and a renewed sense of alignment, which is the most rewarding and transformational part of the work I do.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
To give color to the story about my Granddad- he used to visit us every summer. I remember when I was maybe about 12 years old, he and my grandmother came to visit my parents and siblings. One thing about my granddad, is he walked EVERYDAY! I remember asking him if I could go on a walk with him (not knowing what I was about to get myself into!) He said, come on “Young Squirrel,” that’s what he called the grandkids. I was SO excited to go on this walk with my grandad- thinking I could “hang” because he was “old!” He was maybe in his 60’s at the time. We went for that walk in the heat of a Texas Summer in the early 90’s, and the walk was at least 2 hours long. I was sweating, complaining, and could not wait to get home! lol! What I saw, was a man on a mission to keep his body and mind strong. The old man went out the door in my mind, and I was the weakling on that walk! I never forgot this. It’s a memory that I know has kept me on my journey of daily movement. His example sowed a huge seed in my life. I am so thankful that he lived out what he preached about- He would say to me, “baby you have to move your body and exercise your mind daily.” This is a fond memory and I am so grateful for that experience with my sweet Granddaddy!
