Today we’d like to introduce you to Jarvis Hunter.
Hi Jarvis, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m the creator of FunkyTownUncut a YouTube channel that raises awareness on addiction and homelessness! I was inspired to do this by Just driving around the city seeing people sleeping on the streets hungry not properly clothed no shoes just seeing people in situations no human being should be in also having family members and close friends be in these sort of homelessness and drug addiction situation and seeing that no one really goes and checks on these people everyday just to let them know they matter to and someone cares which inspired me to spread the awareness and show the public that there are people who care to show the youth that being homeless and doing drugs is not cool and were it leads to hoping that people that see the interviews I do will see how the life out there really is it’s hard it’s deadly its no future in it in a positive way showing people who watch if we go out every day and just bless one person with a meal clothes hygiene something they need that that alone makes a difference and today I am trying to continue building awareness and let the people on the streets who have no voice because of how they look or smell or struggle with addictions have there voices heard
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has its rough patches because you go around these people and check on them and seeing the children the elderly seeing any of them on the concrete asleep is sad saying they have not eating in 2 days and you can hear there stomach growling breaks your heart you end up building bonds with these people and wanting to do so much for them which I do this all out of my own pocket I do not currently have any sponsors so financially it can be a challenge and definitely it will have a emotional impact on you to it’s different when you drive by and see them versus stopping getting out of your car going and sitting with them like there your friend you talk to everyday I check on these people every day no breaks
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a content creator a full time parent a husband and a person who loves to help the less fortunate I am very proud and one of the best things I have ever done in my life is my homeless drug addiction endeavor I recently started I can’t describe how good it makes me feel to see the smiles on the peoples faces when you hand them the smallest things it could be a pair of socks the smile the thank you is just the feeling I get from making that person feel loved is indescribable and that makes me different from others I care and I show it and I am very proud of everything I can do for these people.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Yes I take risks doing my homeless addiction awareness as far as financially I spend quite a bit of money handing clothes shoes food hygiene bus passes help with id card all of that. They can leave stuff sell stuff but that’s besides the point my intention is pure and I have to hope they do what they should with the things I give them. I also take risks going to the places I have to go to find these people they are in the worst places Fort Worth has but I have to set aside any fear I may have to make sure someone eats I give narcan as well so I have to go were I have to go to make sure everyone has narcan.
