Rising Stars: Meet Jasmine Xavier of Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Xavier.

Hi Jasmine, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I began my journey as a music educator through my own artistic path, shaped by my love for music, my aspirations to become a professional singer, and my desire to give back to the community. Teaching students to sing and play piano is one of the greatest joys in my life. There’s something incredibly rewarding about watching them grow, discover their abilities, and gain confidence in their musical talents.

I’m passionate about building both knowledge and self-assurance in my students, helping them learn, progress, and ultimately perform with pride. Connecting with people through music is a true gift, and I feel honored to support students as they pursue their own musical goals and aspirations.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Building my music teaching business and artist development program has been a long journey, one filled with both progress and setbacks. Like many small business owners, I’ve faced challenges in finding consistent students, balancing schedules, managing the behind-the-scenes responsibilities, and continuing to grow my own artistry at the same time.

There have been moments of uncertainty, but each obstacle has strengthened my commitment to the work I love.
What keeps me moving forward is my belief in the purpose behind my business: connecting with communities, sharing the gift of music, and helping others succeed.

I’ve learned that growth takes patience, adaptability, and a willingness to keep showing up even when the results aren’t immediate. It also requires communication and encouragement, reminding students to practice, stay motivated, and keep exploring new skills, pieces, and possibilities.

My motto has always been “never give up.” Whether it’s a student struggling through a difficult song or myself navigating the challenges of entrepreneurship, I try to lead with resilience and hope for better days ahead. Every lesson, every breakthrough, and every connection makes the journey worthwhile.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a music educator and I have my own private lesson teaching business Xavier Music Academy teaching piano and voice lessons in people’s homes.

As a traveling music teacher, I provide in-home piano and voice lessons for students of all ages, meeting them in the space where they feel most comfortable and creative. I specialize in building strong foundational technique while keeping lessons engaging, personalized, and enjoyable. Whether a student is just beginning their musical journey or preparing for advanced auditions and performances, my focus is always on helping them develop confidence, musicality, and a genuine love for learning.

I’m known for my patient, encouraging teaching style and my ability to adapt lessons to each student’s unique learning pace, goals, and personality. Parents often tell me that their children look forward to lessons each week not just because they’re progressing, but because they feel supported and inspired.

What I’m most proud of is watching students grow not only as musicians but as people. Seeing a student finally master a piece they thought was “too hard,” or hearing their voice become freer and stronger over time, is incredibly rewarding. I also take pride in fostering a positive, low-pressure environment where mistakes are seen as part of the learning process rather than something to fear.

What sets me apart is the combination of my holistic approach and the convenience I provide by teaching in students’ homes. I meet each student exactly where they are musically, emotionally, and physically and tailor lessons to match their interests, whether that’s classical repertoire, pop songs, musical theatre, or original music they want to explore. My goal is always to make lessons meaningful, fun, and accessible, helping students build skills that will stay with them for a lifetime.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
When I was 3 years old my dad had me take traditional classical dance lessons, and I was the youngest most adorable student. But in dance class I wouldn’t dance nor move unless the teacher bribed me with candy. I was kicked out of the dance studio and my parents were told I was not ready for dance classes. However my dad wanted me to be involved in the music and arts. He had me enrolled in piano lessons at the age of 5years old. My father wanted me to tap into my creative abilities and have a fun educated hobby and keep me away from the television! I have to thank my dad today!! Fathers know best!

I enjoyed my lessons with my piano teacher Mr. Brookshire and he really open my eyes to learning and being creative with music. I started learning how to compose and write fun songs. I started exploring and what began as simple curiosity quickly became an escape. I’d spend afternoons plunking out little patterns and pretending they were songs, trying to imitate the melodies I heard on the radio or in movies. Even before I knew the names of the notes, I could feel when something sounded “right.” I didn’t realize it then, but that sense of musical instinct was already forming.

My voice found me in an equally unexpected way. I used to hum along absentmindedly as I played, letting my voice drift above the notes without thinking. One day, a family member stopped in the doorway and said, “You know… you can really sing.” I remember the sudden stillness of that moment the surprise of being noticed, the spark of possibility that lit up inside me. After that, singing became a natural extension of sitting at the piano. I’d try to match the pitch of each key, stretching my voice the same way my fingers stretched across the keyboard.

Little by little, I started to realize that piano and singing weren’t just things I enjoyed, they were parts of me. They gave me confidence, a place to express myself, and a language to understand the world. That childhood curiosity evolved into a passion that shaped who I became, and it’s a feeling I try to share with every student I teach today.
