Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaylon Scott.
Hi Jaylon, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always had a passion for dance and modeling. My grandma tells me stories all the time of me dancing to James’s brown as a toddler! My other grandma had tons of photos of me randomly posing Around when I was 6, I started a coed band with my cousin I took the role as the Choreographer. However, I wasn’t in dance classes nor did I take any modeling classes. I spent most of my time watching anime and playing video games. But it was those same games and anime that would inspire my future fashion sense and dance style!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My style is not one you really see a lot of African American men embrace. It can be hard for people to take you seriously when you dance to music they aren’t accustomed to. Or wearing Clothes inspired by fictional characters. There were so many times when I wondered if I should do something more traditional. But I realized I have this gift for a reason, and I have a chance to really show that Black men can be fun, happy, cute, and sexy and that it doesn’t make you less of a man.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m known mostly for my unique style of anime choreography. And being the embodiment of black boy joy, I’m really proud of the following I’ve gathered on TikTok! The support has been amazing!
