Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenae Johnikin
Hi Jenae, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am originally from Lake Providence, Louisiana but I reside in Dallas, Texas. I believe that I was chosen to be a hairstylist and I feel like I have known this since I was a little girl. Since I could remember my aunt would buy me and my cousin bratz dolls for Christmas or just because but I would always have a comb/brush doing the dolls hair, I would always do my friends/family hair and my own hair as well.
In middle school I continued to perfect my craft and once I made it to high school I knew that being a stylist was all that I wanted to be. In 2014 I graduated high school and I started my journey as a full time stylist at the age of 17 , “StylesByNae” was my first initial business name and since 2014 I’ve been thriving and touched 100s of people throughout this entrepreneurial life I take on but as I look back at some of my work today from when I was “StylesByNae” it makes me go 10 times as harder.
In 2021, I rebranded my business to “Luxury Looks LLC” and I chose this name because I want my clients to be able to experience the luxury of what it’s like to have a stylist that not only cares about braids but cares about your natural hair as well.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Being an entrepreneur it want always be a smooth sailing process but if you are determined and dedicated you can accomplish great things. Its pros and cons so you have to be willing to understand that it’s not always going to go the way you feel it would but still believe in your brand and your reasons why. It takes patience , grit and understanding so don’t think that because you’re not where you feel you should be within your business that you are failing. Always keep God first, pray and when it comes time to deliver always show up for yourself no matter what. Life will not always be fair but you can be fair to yourself by working hard because as long as you do that you will always win.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a hairstylist and I specialize in braids. I do Knotless braids, stitch braids, passion twist, boho braids, tribals and so much more as well as a kid friendly braider. I am most proud of being able to provide an exceptional service to not only African Americans but all cultures and I know that is what sets me apart from others and because I’m very dedicated, motivated, ambitious and willing to learn new things so that I could advance in the next stage of my career/life.
What does success mean to you?
I define success by accomplishing the goals and aspirations I set for myself. By embracing the failures , being persistent, consistent and focusing on my soft skills. I also want to be a good role model and inspiration to the youth and younger generation that will follow in my foot steps.
