Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenny Worsham.
Hi Jenny, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
In 2016, I sent my oldest off to kindergarten and started meeting other kinder moms who were overwhelmed and needed support. I knew what that was like and how crucial community had been to me so I started a mom’s group out of my home. We laughed, shared where we needed help, and talked about how to intentionally teach family values in our one-hour gathering each month.
Around the same time, my dear friends Kate and Rebecca felt called to teach and encourage moms. As friends and neighbors, we combined our unified heart for moms and created Gather Moms, a nonprofit organization to provide community and encouragement to moms.
The Gather Moms event came out of that vision and in 2017, at the first event, over 30 Gather Moms Groups started as hundreds of moms found community for the first time. Several years later, the vision to connect moms now includes a multitude of resources, hundreds of groups meeting all over the world, and The Gather Moms Podcast.
Moms, we need each other. We don’t want you to mom alone. Our mission is to help you connect to other moms you get you, who know your joys, your struggles and can offer support and encouragement.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
When I invited the first few moms to my home in 2017, I never dreamed how far God would take Gather Moms and the thousands of moms we would reach. There have been challenges with the quick growth, equipping moms around the world to lead other moms, while struggling to have financial resources to continue all that we do. None of us are paid for all we do for Gather Moms, and we dream that one day we will have the resources to grow Gather Moms into the premier space for moms to find encouragement and support around the world.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a CPA so it was not in my plans to ever lead a nonprofit for moms, But God! He always has bigger plans than we could ever dream.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
During Covid-19, we joke that it became illegal to “gather” and we saw memes created with Gather signs with the words, “Take it down, Karen. It’s illegal”. Our Gather groups could not meet anymore and it was very challenging. But during this time, we had time to create the Gather Moms podcast and launch in August 2020. The Gather Moms podcast allows us to encourage moms even if they can’t meet in person. However, as we have learned so much through Covid-19 we have seen how much moms truly need each other, and moms are more hungry for community than ever before.
