Today we’d like to introduce you to Jesus / Jeezus.
Hi Jesus / Jeezus, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
The story starts with me going out to a place called Vidorra back in 2022~2023:
A Latin club vibe playing everything from Reggaeton to Cumbia to some Latin EDM, dembow you name it.
After my second time or so going out there I end up meeting the Dj- DJ INZO and give him compliments as to what he was playing how he was playing. Later on, I’d say May or April time in 2022 I get to looking on DJ apps, and at the time I’m managing restaurants and like to put music for the team at the locations and would want to use that to mix tracks in and out when i had the time. Eventually a friend, let me borrow one of his small controllers and I got to work with serato playing around with all the features building up a library and just working on everything from timing, phrasing, song selection to where I end up sending Inzo some mixes just to receive feedbacks.
I’m putting in the work and maybe late 2022/2023 I can’t remember time lines well, Soundworks opens up – A DJ SCHOOL/PLAYGROUND – and Inzo is one of the founders along with other well known DJs in Dallas Susko and Ryan J.
I sign up to be in their first group of students, graduate from both classes and get to play at Wonderbar Dallas and at the same time I’m also getting my foot in the door with Vidorra and getting a chance to open and to play with Inzo and other djs from vidorra as well.
After maybe a year or two at vidorra I start getting more and more opportunities to play in different areas across the DFW and here we are today. Having fun every weekend, loving what I do, I left the hospitality industry to pursue this passion for quite some time.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely not smooth road I’d say everywhere has its challenges, and definitely in the DJ industry. To get your foot in the door you literally have to PUT your foot in the door if you know what I mean.
Alongside that lots of networking lots of being in the right time right place and also making good connections.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What I do know is I create blends or mixes that just sound like they’re meant to be together with building and creating a story through music whether it’s the lyrics from song to song or individual words or even down the to key of the song.
I’d say my ear and love of the craft may be what sets me apart.
Someone once told me “its not the gear, it’s not the music, it’s the DJ.” And I stand by that, we can all have the same music or edits or Playlist but we will all play it differently and I think that’s what makes the love of the Profession even more greater
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
More than anything timing, as much as I loved the hospitality industry I wish I would’ve pursued something I didn’t know I would end up liking so much earlier. Unsure if it’s bad luck or good luck but I’m happy it’s happened the way it has.
