Jonathan Dorce and Nolan Norton, longtime friends since their college days at Florida A&M University, combined their corporate expertise and entrepreneurial passion to open a new location of CamiCakes Cupcakes in McKinney, Texas in July 2024. Originally founded in 2006 with locations in Jacksonville, Florida and Atlanta, Georgia, CamiCakes is known for offering a delicious variety of over 20 cupcake and cake flavors. With their new venture, Jonathan and Nolan are bringing the brand’s signature sweetness to Texas, living out the company’s heartfelt tagline:
“We Create Happiness, One Cupcake At A Time.”
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Expanding CamiCakes Cupcakes to McKinney, Texas came with its share of challenges for Jonathan Dorce and Nolan Norton. Launching a business in a new market where the brand had no previous presence meant starting from scratch—building brand awareness, earning customer trust, and competing with established local bakeries. Navigating unfamiliar market dynamics and creating a loyal customer base required persistence, creativity, and strategic outreach.
Despite these hurdles, Jonathan and Nolan leaned on their strong faith, deep friendship, and unwavering drive to bring their vision to life. Their belief in the CamiCakes mission, kept them focused and motivated. Despite the demands of launching and operating CamiCakes cupcakes in McKinney, Texas, both Jonathan and Nolan continue to work full-time in their respective fields.
Jonathan applies his tech background to support the bakery’s digital presence and operational efficiency, while Nolan leverages his business knowledge to oversee strategy, finance, and customer experience. Their ability to balance corporate careers with small business ownership is a testament to their dedication, discipline, and shared passion for creating something meaningful beyond the 9-to-5.
