Rising Stars: Meet Jones Monroe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jones Monroe.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Born Christina Pogue in Dallas, Tex. I grew up in Terrell, Tex. I started playing the piano at 5 years old and training in opera at 7. I decided to release a mainstream project when I felt internally disturbed by the George Floyd’s death and mishandling of my people. I didn’t realize how much the situation disturbed me because I never dealt emotionally with the discrimination and racism, I experienced my whole life. I became really depressed and all of the songs from my album poured out of me. The songs on my debut album reflect my newfound black pride, self-worth, sexuality, country roots, and don’t fuck with me attitude. I released my debut single ‘Black’ Juneteenth 2021 and am extremely excited for my EP In January 2022.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I believe every journey has its challenges however, being an artist is different. I believe it’s one of deep self-reflection, internalization of raw emotion, trust, and confidence. I’ve had to face my true emotions to create this project and that has been my largest struggle. Self-reflection is necessary to dig beneath our own layers and visit the inner layers of our hearts and mind to develop an understanding of life.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I have been an artist my entire life and am very grateful for my current direction. I have never released a body of work before that I’ve truly cared about until my single “Black” was released Juneteenth 2021. My current artist spark has been the blatant injustices against in my opinion humanity. Injustice has and will always exist however art can remind us all more about ourselves and love. This reminder can help change the world.

We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Most people don’t know that during the day I wear a corporate suit and sit as the CEO of a prominent artist development company in Dallas, Tex. I currently still split my time between myself and the company but am anticipating touring soon.
