Today we’d like to introduce you to Julian King.
Hi Julian, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I moved to Dallas in 2019. I had gotten a place at SMU for a 2-year Master of Theology in Music. I struggled to settle down and right after I started getting a hang of things my grandfather who had raised me passed away in Zimbabwe. I was at a point in school where I couldn’t travel so I couldn’t attend the funeral. I went into a phase of depression and singing at Highland Park United Methodist Cornerstone service kept me sane. While in the same season I put all of the lessons and pain and put it into song and that’s how my first hit Rwendo was birthed. It was my first time I released something successful on Zimbabwean radio and started getting some recognition. One thing led to another and I went on to release two EPs and started doing more music videos all while at school. After I finished the Theology master’s I decided to get back into business as my undergrad had been in accounting. I enrolled with the SMU MBA program, and I had a wonderful learning experience. Now I am about to get into corporate America soon, and I can’t wait. Music will always be a part of me, and now I sing every other Sunday at Uptown Church a new church coming from HPUMC that has services at the House of Blues in Dallas.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am into Consulting, Auditing, and Assurance which I feel perfectly prepared for because of my accounting background and MBA in Strategy and Entrepreneurship. I have some experience in startup management and internal auditing and this gives me an advantage over other beginners at my level.
What do you think about luck?
I prefer to call it grace and blessings, and if it wasn’t for that, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
