Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Garrett.
Alright, thank you for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started my love of photography when I was a teenager. I would take pictures of friends and family for fun. As I got older, life got in the way and my love of photography got put on the back burner. Fast forward about 10 years and I had my daughter. I wanted to capture every moment I could but I couldn’t afford a real camera so my cell phone worked.
Then, I got pregnant with my son and knew this was when I needed to get a camera. My husband and I did everything we could and got me a basic beginner camera with the nifty fifty lenses. I started practicing with my kids. I was taking course after course. Studying all the time and mentoring amazing photographers in the area. Little did I know my love for Photography work turned into a full-time gig! I started with families and senior photography. I started teaching my husband. He started taking courses and learning all the things!
We Dabbled in weddings once we both got experienced enough. I kind of had to do it all until I found my true love of Photography in Maternity, Newborns, and kids! I started mentoring with an online mentor and a local Newborn photographer who taught me everything I know including safety, posing, soothing, and communicating with parents. Everything. I can now say I specialize in Maternity and Newborn Photography.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it has not been a smooth road at all! I’m still trying to sail on this roller coaster of owning my own business! I would say some of my biggest struggles would be finding a balance between life, family, and Photography. Owning your own business can be stressful but with a lot of faith and prayers, anyone can do it!

I specialize in Maternity and Newborn Photography. I am most known for having fun and making people feel comfortable. My parents love how gentle and safe I am with their new baby! I am proud of standing up and doing what I love. I took a chance on myself. What sets me apart is I’m open, and honest and will do anything I can to make people happy! I want to create something amazing that captures every special moment in someone’s life!
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I work hard but the drive keeps me going. I make sure you get the best. I want to deliver the best. I am very hard on myself and put very high expectations on my delivery.
