Rising Stars: Meet Keimaria Spencer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keimaria Spencer.

Hi Keimaria, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I had an interest in hair/beauty from an early age. I didn’t actually start perusing hair until about middle school, that’s when I kinda knew hair was my favorite thing to do. Playing in my childhood friends’ hair turned into a lifetime career for me. I’m now 26 and have been fortunate enough to do what I love my whole life and create a decent lifestyle for my son and I.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Having my son at the early age of 16 really shifted my focus. I had different responsibilities than everyone I was around so I had to go hard! So blessed to have found my career so early and never having to struggle with my son. If anything, he was my reason to never give up on my dreams! It’s been pretty smooth because I actually have a real passion for what I do. My work never really feels like work or a chore because I enjoy everything about it!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I do all types off hairstyles from natural silk presses to wig/lace installs and sew-ins as well. I would like to say I specialize in lace installations because that’s what I do the most of and what I’ve put most of my focus on the past few years as that’s the most popular style right now. I am most proud of my growth overall, from work ethic to the art of the installs. I literally can see my work getting better with each install! My personality and just being my raw, authentic self is what sets me apart from anybody else. Who I am, down to my core plays a big part of how I service each and every client. I don’t just want to work for money, I genuinely love and appreciate everyone who trusts me to service them.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I love what I do so I don’t think I will ever stop servicing clients, but I would like to have a salon with other great stylists! Over the past year, I’ve been fortunate enough to start servicing brides for their wedding day and I’ve grown to LOVE it. I wouldn’t mind shifting to specifically being a bridal stylist. Traveling all over!
