Rising Stars: Meet Kelonda Smith

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelonda Smith.

Hi Kelonda, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
How I started is honestly a Basic story I watched family. My grandmother for instance, used to make clothing and all sorts of other things, and my aunt who was a model led me down the beauty/fashion industry. Watching them made me want to do makeup and hair, but what actually pushed me through the door was being fired from my last job. I took it as a sign to take myself seriously and started from there. I love everything beauty and fashion it is my literal peace. And now, I’m in the process of building my YouTube channel, Taboo talks. Which I’ll be featuring make still and My hair coloring techniques. So, stay tuned for that!

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest obstacle I’ve had to overcome was myself, with the self-doubt and courage. I’m a mom as well and to go out and tack on extra duties to what I already had and think about the fact that it would take away the time that I had with them was something I really had to sit and think on. But it is one of the best decisions ever. Even when it’s not all peaches and cream.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
So, this started out as a hobby and trying to learn how to do my own makeup and watching YouTube videos really, and it just took off from there. I have multiple services, I offer hair coloring I love that you can change your look and be a different woman at a moment’s notice. And I also do makeup, which is also a way to switch your looks up. What really sets me apart from others is the fact that I make the looks so natural and it’s literally the reason why people come to me. The girls want a natural beat. Whether it be the change of your hair or the look on your face.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Don’t let yourself get into your own head, you are literally the make or break of you become the successful person you have the ability to be. Even when other people are talking down on your craft, you are the only person that can allow it to either bring you up or down.
