Today we’d like to introduce you to Ken Stinson.
Hi Ken, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Kinesse Leather Co. is an on-line custom and made-to-order leather clothing company specializing in men’s, women’s, and children’s leather garments. Based in Dallas, TX, Kinesse is most notably known for our Varsity Essential Jackets and Bomber Essential Jackets, which are crafted with premium lambskin leather. The development process of Kinesse was initiated during childhood by my Mother, who made it a priority to ensure my brother and I always looked the part. It was not an act of materialism or forcing us into designer brand, but more of a norm that was established in our household.
I later learned that her acts were influenced by my two grandmothers, who were both named Dorothy. A philosophy of my father’s mother was “when you leave the house, be sure you look like something.” And my mom’s mother had a philosophy that her job was to “dress, rest, and request.” So, as you can see, what one wears or how they presents themselves goes back generations in my Family. In addition to my Mother, I would argue that two grandmothers have also had a significant impact on developing the foundation of Kinesse. One of the most important principle ingrained into developing the foundation of Kinesse through my upbringing was “It’s not on you, it’s in you.” Meaning, while it’s perfectly fine to put effort into looking your best, just be certain you put even more effort into sharpening your mind and doing good work toward others. In addition, I was advised that a vital step in the process to discovering your destiny is to identify your Passion, Ability, Experience, and Personality and where these four things converge. I can confidently say that Kinesse is a by product of these four areas converging.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say one the greatest challenges our Family faced while developing the company over the last few years was raising our two children, Kenneth II (5) and Kensington (3). In addition, my wife and I both were on the back-end of our academic journey’s. My wife pursued a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree to become a dentist, as well as obtained her PhD bio-medical science from Baylor College of Dentistry. While I obtained a Doctorate of Business Administration (DBA) from Georgia State University. All of this while we both maintained and produced in our professional jobs. Our lifestyle during these years forced us to abide by strict time management practices in order to be effective. To date, our lifestyle and household remain eventful, but nothing compared to the years of just staring the company, 1 infant & 1 toddler, all while 2 adults write their dissertation. 🙂
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I received my Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Supply Chain and Logistics Technology from the University of Houston in 2009; Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) with a Healthcare Services Management Concentration, from the University of Dallas in 2013; Doctorate of Business Administration (D.B.A.) in 2019 from Georgia State University. Through training and experience I am a Supply Chain Management Executive with ten years of progressive experience in contracts, procurement, negotiations, sales and operations in such diverse industries as healthcare, construction, military automotive manufacturing, hospitality and entertainment. I currently work as a full-time healthcare supply chain consultant, and I could not imagine another other job I could be doing at this point in my life that would be more rewarding. It is truly a blessing to have employment in the corporate sector in this day and time, not to mention working for an organization that you value and values you. Following the children aging a little, and my Wife and I completing all of our academic endeavors we were able to redistribute more time toward some of our family’s entrepreneurial passion projects, hence Kinesse Leather Company.
