Today we’d like to introduce you to King Roe.
Hi King, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m Amazen King Roe. I’m the drummer who somebody knows; everywhere I go. I’m the Rhythm of the Streets + Moonlight.
I started taking my recording career seriously immediately after Michael Jackson passed away. I can remember give all of the rest of my roses in was selling in Seattle, WA away, and finding something to start with. So, I decided to start performing with whatever I had since I couldn’t record yet.
1 year later after recording my first album called: Amazen King Roe, The Original Album. Recorded in 2009 in Las Vegas, Vegas, NV alongside my best friend and label mate & artist, TIA GUNZ, who recently passed away, 1 day after my birthday this summer.
She was there for all 6 album releases. And even during this summer, as we prepare for our next release for 2022, the “AKR7: Royalty” LP
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This has not been the smoothest road for me. There has been a lot of starts and stops.
I started out alone. With my family in mind. Of course.
When My father left, I had just began the label and registered Eye of a Needle Records in Dallas, TX.
We had a deal on the table with Cash Money Records a few years ago. But I decided not to sign until the case with Lil Wayne settlement is resolved.
I used to keep my eye open for any companies who would partner with us, but none have suited well so we just kept pushing forward.
During Covid Season, I lost 2 good radio DJs who worked closely with us: Harrison Wood (Las Vegas/Seattle) and Amanda Blaze (Hot97 New York).
So yeah, there’s been a few slowdowns along the journey…
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I actually still play street drums and sing for a living.
I normally perform at random sports stadiums.
My 1st viral video was 100,000 Views on Vimeo named: KING SOLOMON Music Documentary by Jared Rosenthal.
This video was eventually published by TheAtlantic Video Magazine.
At this time, I had 30 pages on Google for having 3 albums
I take temporary assignments to supplement my income. Side gigs such as: DoorDash, restaurants, hotel front desk, etc
Mainly because for twenty years before Covid season, I could never get a job. No one would hire me 😆
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Dedication and Desire
I believe that without these 2 things. It’s easy to give up on yourself.
I think that people should always check in with themselves.
To make sure their Dedication & Desire meter is Up.
In other words, with Dedication and Desire, nothing can show up to throw me off course. Therefore, with it, I am always able to Succeed.
