Rising Stars: Meet Kuro of Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kuro.

Hi Kuro, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My passion for curating music started early. Movie soundtracks, video game music, and whatever CDs that could be snatched from the family collection became an obsession. I was a fascinated with how a song could shift a moment or trigger a feeling. In high school, house parties became my testing ground. I curated playlists track by track, intentionally shaping the energy of the night. Then Limewire, Frostwire, and SoundCloud came along, and the world got bigger. New sounds. New genres. Whole rabbit holes that nobody around me was exploring yet. That turned me into the “pass me the aux” guy, always trying to introduce people to something new. Watching DJs and artists perform pushed things further. My own personal mixes, beats, and playlists started circulating among friends and family, and they’d always say the same line: “Bro, just become a real DJ.” The real shift came because of my grandmother. On drives to and from her hospital visits, she’d vibe to the music I played and name some of the samples. Seeing music connect two generations made it clear this wasn’t just about songs, it was more about connection. Since then, it’s been late nights, closed doors, opened doors, constant preparation, learning the business, evolving, and carving out a lane that feels authentic to who I am. I’m still growing into the creative that kid always imagined.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There have definitely been some rocky times, but the biggest challenge has been staying positive when things don’t go as planned and continuing to keep pushing regardless of the outcomes. Don’t take things personally and adapt.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As a DJ, the focus for me isn’t just on playing songs, I always try to create an experience. I believe every set crafted should feel like a journey or a roller coster ride of energy. I am known for being an open-format DJ that experiments blending/mixing between classics, underground gems, and global sounds to keep the room guessing and engaged. Versatility is my foundation and I pride myself on that. Reading the crowd, adapting in real time, and shaping the flow allows the energy to rise, breathe, and evolve.

For me, I try to approach every performance like storytelling. It’s not only mixing tracks; it’s creating a transformative energy from the first song to the last. A deep knowledge of music, paired with a willingness to experiment and push boundaries, leads to blends you won’t hear from anyone else. DJing and creativity for me is innovation, intention, and an immersive energy that goes into the art.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I’ve been in Dallas my whole life and I love that it is constantly growing and welcoming new experiences, but despise the traffic.
