Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyree Anderson.
Hi Kyree, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Hello everybody, I go by Acme. I am a recording artist based in Dallas, Texas. I was born and raised in Peoria, Illinois, and moved to the Dallas area the day after I graduated Highschool in 2015. I moved around a bit and ended up back in the Dallas area in 2018 to stay for good. I’ve always enjoyed creating music. My dad is a musician, so I guess it’s kind of in my blood. As a kid, I took lessons to learn to play drums and piano, and at the age of 5 (With the help of some older cousins), I recorded my first song. Most of the rapping I was doing early was freestyling or rapping to instrumentals off the top of my head. I could honestly freestyle for hours nonstop to be honest, it’s one of my favorite things to do to this day. In high school, I started writing songs more frequently. On the school bus, in class, at night, whenever I could find some free time and some internet to pull up beats. My earliest songs were recorded on some of the cheapest equipment you could find in a random classmate’s basement, but I treated it like I was in a world-renowned studio. I loved it and still do. As of 2016, I started working with platinum recording engineer Matt Kennedy. At the time, I had googled “Best studios in Dallas,” and the place that he was working at the time came up. I gave them a call, got their rates, and started saving up. My first session with Matt, I could tell that he thought this would be a one-time thing, but little did he know I would be calling him week after week for years. Fast forward to 2022, and Matt and I still work together regularly. These days I like to take my time and make sure that everything that I drop is the highest quality that I can produce. I feel like I get better with each song.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely been a process. As an artist, all I really want to do is create; however, a lot more goes into it than that. Marketing, building a team, standing out from millions of other artists, algorithms, content creation, you get the point. It’s a lot on one person. Not to mention how much all of those things cost. I would say the hardest thing is knowing exactly what you should be doing at what moment. The way I deal with it is to try and keep a plan and gradually hit one goal at a time. Also, focusing on myself and not comparing myself to other people. Everyone’s journey is different.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I currently have tons of songs on all streaming platforms. Some of my favorites are “Here I am,” “Levels,” and “Walking to the moon,” to name a few. I like to make music that I personally would listen to. Whatever genre it falls into, if I feel inspired, I’ll make it. I think people like my music because I have my own sound. It’s authentic to me. I’m not talking about things that I don’t really do, and I think it’s refreshing to listeners. I think that’s what sets me apart from other people, the ability to be the same in person as I am in my music. I take pride in that.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I think me being humble. I am grateful for every person who interacts with anything that I create. Also, my drive to succeed. I want to make it where I can be a role model and set the blueprint for the people coming up after me. I can show them that you can be true to yourself and have success in music or any other avenue that you apply yourself to.
