Hi Lauren, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Photography has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up running around my grandma’s garden with her old film camera, completely obsessed with chasing the morning light. Over the last 16 years, that childhood passion turned into a professional career centered on capturing human connection.
When I first shared my story with you back in 2018, I was right in the middle of a massive life transition. I had just moved back to the Dallas area with three babies born within a two-year window. Back then, my business was all about balancing that beautiful, chaotic season of motherhood with building a new local clientele.
Today, my perspective and my brand have evolved. I’ve transitioned my studio away from standard digital files to focus on creating physical, museum-grade family heirlooms like custom linen albums and fine-art prints. My work has also expanded beyond the DFW borders into high-end travel and international destination sessions. Whether I’m shooting locally or on a cliffside in Ireland, my goal is still the same: creating timeless artwork for families that lasts for generations.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a journey of constant learning and adaptation. Over the last few years, my biggest professional challenge has been navigating a shifting economy and a changing industry landscape, all while raising my three amazing kids. Doing this as a single mother certainly comes with unique logistical hurdles, but I am incredibly blessed to be surrounded by a wonderful community and a deeply supportive family who help me keep everything balanced.
Because the local market has been slower recently, I’ve used this quieter season to slow down, look inward, and re-evaluate my business structure. I realized I needed to stop settling for standard digital-heavy workflows and focus instead on creating a high-end experience centered around tangible, fine-art family heirlooms.
Travel has been a beautiful teacher during this transitional phase. I recently escorted my children to Europe for a wedding and stayed behind to build a new travel lookbook. The trip turned out to be a true lesson in flexibility. We faced a flat tire on a remote Irish country road after a 9-hour red-eye flight, sudden motion sickness right before our photo session, and a jet-lagged mistake of putting diesel fuel into my petrol rental car.
I found myself stranded in a tiny town called Adare, but a few incredibly kind locals stepped in to rescue me and drain the tank. Hours later, I was rushing to my own cliffside branding session, stepping in front of the lens with dirty hair, sheer adrenaline, and a lot of gratitude.
Keeping a positive attitude through all of that reminded me of my own resilience. It taught me that luxury destination photography isn’t about everything going flawlessly. It’s about having the grace to handle the unexpected, pivot with a smile, and still find the magic in the middle of a messy, beautiful journey.

Lauren Marks Photography specializes in luxury editorial portraits and custom fine-art family heirlooms. Over my 16 years in this industry, my work has been featured in national publications like Martha Stewart Weddings and The Knot. While my roots are in wedding photography, my studio’s focus has beautifully evolved alongside my own journey as a mother. Today, I dedicate my art to capturing the quiet, genuine connections within families and preserving those fleeting seasons of childhood.
My approach is deeply collaborative and hands-on. I don’t just show up to snap photos; I act as a creative visual director for my clients. Because I live an intentional, holistic lifestyle with my own three children, I bring that same thoughtful care into my styling and wardrobe curation. I help families select soft textures and timeless palettes that naturally harmonize with our locations.
The biggest shift in my business is how we preserve the final art. I have moved away from standard, forgotten digital hard drives. Instead, my clients receive a high-end print experience centered on tangible legacy artwork—such as custom-designed linen albums, museum-grade gallery frames, and archival prints designed to be held and passed down through generations.
In addition to serving families locally in premium DFW neighborhoods like Highland Park, Lakewood, and Southlake, I am now booking exclusive domestic and international travel portrait commissions. Whether we are capturing your story in your own home or on a windswept coast in Europe, my goal is to create a seamless, stress-free experience that transforms your family’s real-life magic into permanent art.
How do you think about luck?
I’ve come to view ‘luck’ less as a random roll of the dice and more as a reflection of perspective and alignment. If I looked at my journey strictly through the lens of traditional luck, it would be easy to categorize certain seasons as ‘bad luck’—navigating a slower economy as a single mother, or facing a cascade of rental car disasters on a remote country road in Ireland.
But I don’t believe those moments are random misfortunes. Instead, I see them as powerful, necessary pivots. What looks like bad luck on the surface usually carries a hidden gift. Being stranded in Adare introduced me to the incredible kindness of local strangers who rescued my vehicle, which completely transformed the emotional depth of the portraits I shot later that week.
True ‘good luck’ in business isn’t about everything going perfectly; it is about cultivating the divine creative spark within yourself to turn any circumstance into art. When you stop waiting for external luck and start trusting your own resilience, grace, and 16 years of expertise, you realize you have the power to create your own alignment. Success comes when you remain open to the magic hidden right in the middle of life’s unexpected detours.
